MSI Unveils RTX 5070 Ti With a Sneaky 16-Pin Power Connector Hidden Beneath a Removable Backplate

MSI is experimenting with a clever twist on GPU power delivery: a custom GeForce RTX 5070 Ti that hides its 16-pin connector underneath the backplate. This unusual layout isn’t just for cleaner cable management—it’s designed to address one of the biggest headaches with modern graphics cards: sharp cable bends right at the connector.

Why does that matter? One of the leading reasons behind burnt or melted 16-pin power connectors is a tight bend too close to the plug. The guidance for these connectors is to avoid bending the cable within roughly 35 mm of the socket to prevent a loose fit that can lead to overheating. In many cases, especially in compact builds, there simply isn’t enough room to keep the cable straight. That’s where MSI’s approach comes in.

A short video from a Japanese YouTuber shows a custom RTX 5070 Ti where the power socket sits several inches inside the heatsink, concealed beneath the backplate. A small section of the backplate can be removed to connect the cable; once it’s plugged in, the panel goes back on for a clean, streamlined look. With the connector tucked away, the cable naturally maintains more than the recommended clearance, minimizing stress and eliminating harsh bends at the plug.

The card shown resembles an all-white Ventus-style edition, though the exact model name and clock speeds weren’t shared. Specs aren’t the focus here—the standout is the design philosophy aimed at safer, smarter cable routing. Pricing and availability also remain unknown, but if this concept reaches retail, it could set a new standard for GPU power connector placement, especially for builders who prioritize tidy interiors or deal with tight case tolerances.
