MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ Launches With Intel Arc G3 Extreme Graphics and Panther Lake Power
MSI has officially introduced the Claw 8 EX AI+, one of the first gaming handhelds built around Intel’s new Arc G3 Extreme platform. The device arrives in a striking Void Purple finish and positions itself as a high-performance Windows gaming handheld aimed at players who want strong portable gaming power without needing an external GPU.
The Claw 8 EX AI+ follows the earlier Claw 8 AI+ but brings a major internal upgrade. At the center of the handheld is Intel’s latest Panther Lake-based chip, pairing up to 14 CPU cores with 12 Xe3-based GPU cores. This combination is designed to deliver stronger gaming performance, faster multitasking, and improved efficiency for modern handheld gaming.
Graphics are handled by Intel Arc B39, part of the Arc G3 Extreme lineup. With the new GPU architecture, MSI is targeting smoother gameplay, higher frame rates, and better performance in demanding titles. The upgraded chip should also make the handheld more capable for productivity tasks, streaming, emulation, and other portable PC workloads.
The display remains familiar compared with the previous model. MSI has equipped the Claw 8 EX AI+ with an 8-inch FHD+ screen featuring a variable refresh rate range from 48Hz to 120Hz. VRR support should help reduce screen tearing and deliver a smoother visual experience during gameplay. The IPS-level panel also offers up to 500 nits of brightness, making it usable in brighter rooms or on the go, while still providing solid color quality for gaming and media.
For memory, the handheld supports up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage is handled through a single NVMe M.2 Gen 4.0 SSD slot, giving users fast load times and room for modern PC games. The inclusion of expandable storage through a microSD card reader adds more flexibility for players who carry large game libraries.
Audio is handled by dual 2W speakers with TD Audio processing, and the device is Hi-Res Audio ready. For users who prefer wired audio, MSI includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is still an important feature for many handheld gamers.
Connectivity is another highlight. The Claw 8 EX AI+ includes WiFi 7 for faster wireless performance and Bluetooth 6 for improved accessory support. MSI has also included two Thunderbolt 4 ports, giving the handheld strong expansion potential for docks, displays, storage devices, and other peripherals.
Battery capacity is rated at 80Wh, matching the current Claw 8 AI+. That large battery should help support longer gaming sessions, although real-world battery life will depend heavily on game settings, performance mode, screen brightness, and wireless usage. The new model is also only slightly lighter than its predecessor, with a weight reduction of around 10 grams.
MSI has not yet confirmed the official retail price. However, early information suggests the Claw 8 EX AI+ could arrive at around $1,499. Availability is expected to begin on June 23, placing it among the first handheld gaming PCs to feature Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme graphics.
With the Claw 8 EX AI+, MSI is clearly aiming at the premium handheld gaming market. The combination of Intel Panther Lake processing, Arc G3 Extreme graphics, an 8-inch 120Hz VRR display, WiFi 7, Thunderbolt 4, and an 80Wh battery makes it one of the most interesting new portable gaming PCs of the year. If Intel’s new graphics platform delivers the performance gains promised, this could be a major step forward for Windows-based gaming handhelds.
