MSI Expands GeForce RTX 5060 Lineup With New V1 Models Using Cut-Down GB205 GPU Dies
MSI has quietly added several new GeForce RTX 5060 graphics cards to its RTX 50-series lineup, and the biggest change is not immediately visible from the product names alone. The new cards appear under MSI’s “V1” branding and reportedly use a cut-down version of NVIDIA’s GB205 GPU die, the same silicon family associated with the GeForce RTX 5070.
The new MSI GeForce RTX 5060 V1 models arrive at a time when many PC gamers and system builders are closely watching NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series roadmap. While some expected refreshed RTX 50 Super models to appear next, those plans are reportedly on hold due to rising memory costs. As a result, board partners are continuing to expand the current RTX 50 lineup with revised models, updated designs, and alternative GPU configurations.
MSI’s latest additions include four GeForce RTX 5060 cards listed under the V1 category. These models are part of the company’s popular VENTUS and GAMING series, with both standard and factory-overclocked versions available. On paper, the specifications are expected to stay aligned with the regular GeForce RTX 5060, but the V1 name points to an important internal difference.
The key detail is the GPU die. Standard GeForce RTX 5060 graphics cards are typically based on NVIDIA’s GB206 silicon. However, the new MSI V1 cards reportedly use GB205 dies that have been cut down to match RTX 5060-class specifications. In simple terms, MSI appears to be using a larger GPU die normally linked to a higher-tier card, but with parts disabled or configured to meet the RTX 5060 performance target.
This type of approach is not unusual in the graphics card industry. GPU manufacturers often repurpose silicon across different product tiers to improve supply flexibility and make use of available chips. For consumers, the important point is that these cards should still perform like RTX 5060 models, as they are configured to match the standard RTX 5060 specification.
One visible clue that separates the new MSI RTX 5060 V1 cards from existing non-V1 versions is the GPU core mounting layout. The new models reportedly feature a rectangular GPU core mounting style, a design characteristic commonly seen on GB205-based cards such as the RTX 5070. The cooler designs, branding, and model categories remain familiar, especially for buyers already considering MSI’s VENTUS or GAMING graphics cards.
MSI has not yet shared official pricing or availability details for the new GeForce RTX 5060 V1 models. It also remains unclear whether these cards will be sold globally or limited to select regions. For now, they appear to be a quiet lineup expansion rather than a major product relaunch.
