A gaming laptop display suddenly failing is frustrating enough, but getting the machine back from a service center and feeling like the screen no longer behaves the same can make the situation even worse. According to the user, the laptop’s screen stopped working unexpectedly, so it was taken to an authorized MSI service center. After roughly 15 days, the repaired laptop was returned. At first glance, everything appeared to be working again. However, while using the mouse, the owner noticed the display did not feel as smooth as before and suspected that the original 144Hz screen had been replaced with a slower 60Hz panel.
For anyone who owns a gaming laptop, that difference is instantly noticeable. A 144Hz display can refresh more than twice as often as a standard 60Hz panel, making mouse movement, scrolling, and gameplay look significantly smoother. This is one of the key selling points of many gaming notebooks, so it is understandable why the owner became concerned.
However, in this case, a display swap from 144Hz to 60Hz may not be as simple as it sounds.
The main reason is hardware compatibility. Laptop displays with different refresh rates often do not use the same connector type. In many gaming laptops, a 144Hz panel uses a 40-pin eDP connector, while a 60Hz panel commonly uses a 30-pin eDP connector.
