The smartphone maker, Motorola, has officially announced the list of its devices that will be eligible for the Android 14 update. The lineup includes newer models such as the Edge 40 Neo, Razr 40 Ultra, and the Lenovo branded ThinkPhone. Unlike competitors offering extensive software support, Motorola provides a comparatively shorter update cycle.
While devices like the Google Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24 are expected to see up to seven major Android updates, Motorola’s approach is less ambitious. Even its high-end business model, the Lenovo ThinkPhone, is slated to receive only three major Android updates alongside four years of security patches.
The disparity becomes more pronounced in the midrange segment. For instance, the Moto G54 5G will only get one major Android update, which is starkly different from the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G’s commitment to four Android updates and five years of security support. Consequently, the roster of Motorola smartphones set to receive Android 14 is somewhat limited.
However, Motorola has confirmed that the entire Razr series, including the Razr 2022, Razr 40, and Razr 40 Ultra, will get the new OS update. The Edge series, spanning the Edge 30 and Edge 40 models, will also be upgraded to Android 14.
Among the midrange offerings, Android 14 will grace the Moto G14, G23, G53, G54, G73, and G84 models. Motorola has not released a timeline for when the updates will be rolled out, nor has it ruled out the possibility of adding more devices to the update list in the future.
As of now, the following Motorola smartphones are confirmed for the Android 14 update:
– Motorola Razr series: Razr, Razr 40, Razr 40 Ultra, Razr 2022
– Motorola Edge series: Edge, Edge 40, Edge 40 Pro, Edge 40 Neo, Edge 30, Edge 30 Neo, Edge 30 Fusion, Edge 30 Pro, Edge 30 Ultra
– Moto G series: Moto G84 5G, Moto G73 5G, Moto G54 5G, Moto G53 5G, Moto G23, Moto G14
