Fresh leaked CAD renders suggest Miyoo could be working on a new clamshell retro gaming handheld, and it’s shaping up to be one of the more unusual designs we’ve seen lately. The device appears to take clear inspiration from the classic Game Boy Advance SP-style foldable form factor, but with a few modern twists that are already sparking curiosity among handheld fans.
From the images, the layout looks familiar at first glance: a D-Pad on the left, ABXY buttons on the right, and two pill-shaped buttons positioned above the D-Pad that appear to be Start and Select. Things get more interesting in the center area, where the renders show three round buttons placed between two speaker grilles. This placement is commonly associated with certain competing handheld designs, but the markings here are different: the buttons are labeled with circle, square, and triangle symbols, and their exact functions aren’t currently known.
The similarities don’t stop at button placement. The right side of the handheld reportedly includes a textured toggle switch located above the power button, a design detail that mirrors a style seen on other compact retro handhelds. It’s a small touch, but it stands out because toggle switches are still relatively rare in this category and are usually reserved for quick-access functions.
Other visible hardware features in the renders suggest Miyoo is aiming for a feature-rich device. The clamshell appears to include in-line shoulder buttons, an audio jack, two USB ports (one of them shown as USB-C), and two TF (microSD) card slots—one on each side. There are also two tiny buttons positioned between the audio jack and the USB-C port at the bottom, hinting at extra shortcuts or system controls.
One of the biggest surprises is the back panel design: the handheld is shown with a removable battery door. That’s an uncommon choice in modern gaming handhelds, which typically use sealed designs. If this makes it to production, a user-accessible battery could be a major selling point for retro gamers who value easy maintenance, quick replacements, and longer device lifespan.
The renders also show two LEDs at the top-right corner, resembling indicator lights seen on other compact flip-style handhelds.
For now, it’s important to treat this as a leak rather than a confirmed product. There’s no official word on specs, pricing, release timeline, or whether the device is a prototype, a concept, or something actively headed toward production. Still, the combination of a clamshell retro handheld design, dual TF card slots, multiple ports, and a removable battery cover is enough to make this one worth watching for anyone interested in upcoming portable emulation and retro gaming handhelds.
