Minisforum Unveils BD895i SE: A Powerful AMD Mini PC Platform with Up to 96GB RAM Support

Minisforum has officially unveiled the BD895i SE, a new MoDT (Mobile on Desktop) motherboard designed for compact builds that still demand serious performance. Built around AMD’s Ryzen 9 8945HX, this board targets users who want a small ITX-sized system without giving up high core counts, modern storage support, or the option to install a full-size graphics card.

At the heart of the BD895i SE is the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX, a “Dragon Range Refresh” chip featuring 16 Zen 4 cores. That kind of CPU horsepower makes the board an appealing foundation for space-saving gaming PCs, creator workstations, and high-performance home lab machines where multi-core speed matters.

Memory support is also geared toward enthusiasts. The BD895i SE includes two DDR5 slots and supports up to 96 GB of DDR5 RAM, with speeds up to 5,600 MHz. For an ITX-class motherboard, that capacity is especially useful for demanding workloads like video editing, 3D rendering, heavier multitasking, and virtual machines.

Storage flexibility is another strong point. Minisforum equips the BD895i SE with two M.2 slots, each capable of holding up to a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD. That means you can configure up to 4 TB of fast NVMe storage in total—ideal for large game libraries, creative projects, and high-speed scratch disks.

Despite its compact footprint, the BD895i SE doesn’t skimp on expansion for a dedicated GPU. It includes a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, giving builders a modern pathway to pair the board with a discrete graphics card—important for gaming performance, GPU-accelerated creation apps, and AI-related workloads.

Port selection is surprisingly well-rounded for a small MoDT motherboard. On the rear I/O, you’ll find:
1x HDMI 2.1
1x DisplayPort 1.4
1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode
2x USB 2.0 Type-A
2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
3x audio I/O jacks

There’s also an additional USB 3.2 Gen 1 header on the motherboard itself. Minisforum notes support for triple-display output, which can be attractive for productivity setups, trading desks, or multi-monitor creator workflows.

Cooling is a key detail potential buyers should pay attention to. The BD895i SE is bundled with a CPU heatsink, but it does not include a cooling fan. That means builders will need to plan airflow and fan selection carefully, especially given the performance tier of the Ryzen 9 8945HX. The board also includes multiple fan headers to help with custom cooling setups.

Pricing and availability are straightforward: the Minisforum BD895i SE is launching in a barebones configuration for $423.90. No extra components like memory or storage are included, so you’ll need to add your own RAM, SSDs, cooling fan solution, and (if desired) a discrete GPU.

Minisforum also hints that another MoDT motherboard could be on the way, potentially featuring a more powerful Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, which may be worth waiting for if you’re specifically chasing top-tier gaming performance from 3D V-Cache.
