Minisforum Revives Its Pocket-Sized Mini PC with a Fresh New Edition

Minisforum is refreshing its pocket-sized mini PC lineup with an updated version of the AI X1, bringing a new AMD platform to a compact chassis that’s built to punch above its size. While the overall design stays familiar, the internal upgrades should make this release especially appealing for buyers who want a small desktop for productivity, light content creation, and modern AI-ready workloads.

At the heart of the new model is the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470. Based on benchmark expectations, this processor should deliver a modest CPU performance bump compared to the previous Ryzen AI 9 365. That said, the bigger story is graphics. The move from the Radeon 880M integrated GPU to the Radeon 890M is expected to bring a substantial performance improvement, which could translate into smoother creative apps, better acceleration in GPU-assisted workloads, and stronger gaming performance for an iGPU-based mini PC.

Beyond the chip upgrade, Minisforum keeps the same compact footprint, using a 128 x 126 x 52 mm enclosure designed to fit easily on a desk, behind a monitor, or in tight workspaces. Upgradability remains a key selling point, with dual SO-DIMM slots for memory expansion and an M.2 2280 slot for SSD storage.

Connectivity is also a highlight, making the AI X1 a strong option for multi-display and high-speed peripheral setups. The mini PC includes dual USB4 ports, OCuLink for high-bandwidth expansion options, and DisplayPort 2.0 for modern monitor support.

Pricing starts at $719.90 in the US for the barebones configuration, with regional pricing listed at €759, £665, CAD 985.90, and AUD 1,063.90. For shoppers who prefer a ready-to-go setup, Minisforum also offers a pre-configured version with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage for $1,295.90, with regional pricing at €1,359.90, £1,199, CAD 1,774.90, and AUD 1,919.90.

Both the barebones and pre-configured AI X1 versions are expected to begin shipping globally by February 10.
