Microsoft to Retire Outlook Lite Next Month, Marking the End of Its Lightweight Email App

Microsoft is preparing to shut down Outlook Lite, with the lightweight email app set to stop working on May 26. The company launched Outlook Lite in 2022 as a slimmed-down version of the standard Outlook app, built specifically for Android phones with limited storage and for people in areas where internet connections can be slower or less reliable.

While Outlook Lite was already on a path toward retirement, the timeline has now accelerated for current users. Microsoft had previously shared plans to remove the app from the Google Play Store in October 2025, but the latest update confirms that Outlook Lite will lose functionality much sooner, effectively ending support for anyone still using it.

In guidance shared on its support documentation, Microsoft says users who want to keep a “secure and feature-rich email experience” should move to Outlook Mobile, which is the main Outlook app for Android. The transition should be straightforward: Outlook Lite users can still access existing emails, calendar entries, and attachments by signing in to Outlook Mobile with the same account. Users will also be prompted to download the standard Outlook app from the Google Play Store.

For anyone relying on Outlook Lite day-to-day, the key takeaway is simple: to avoid interruptions after May 26, install Outlook Mobile and sign in ahead of time to ensure all mail, calendars, and files are available without disruption.
