Microsoft Intensifies Efforts to Promote Windows 11 Installation via Support Updates

Windows 11 is gaining momentum, gradually winning over users from its predecessor, Windows 10. Microsoft’s continued efforts to encourage the transition seem to be paying off, as more users begin to embrace the latest operating system’s features and improvements. Recently, Microsoft made notable updates to its support page to emphasize the advantages of Windows 11, highlighting key enhancements designed to protect users’ systems.

With Statcounter reporting that Windows 11 has captured 42.07% of the desktop Windows market share—an impressive rise from 26.68% the previous year—the operating system is closing in on Windows 10, which has seen a decline to 54.79% from 69.07% in the same period. This shift indicates a growing confidence among users to make the move to Windows 11.

A focal point of Microsoft’s latest push is to assure users of the heightened security features that Windows 11 offers. This is particularly critical for those concerned about unwanted software on their devices. Microsoft’s support page now prominently features the Smart App Control feature, which is designed to enhance system security through cloud-based protection. This feature blocks unsigned and potentially harmful software, providing users with an additional layer of defense against unwanted programs.

Initially, Smart App Control was not as effective as it could be, but with continuous updates, it has become a robust security tool. However, it requires a clean installation of Windows 11 to activate, meaning a direct upgrade from Windows 10 won’t suffice. Furthermore, during setup, users need to enable optional diagnostic data to fully leverage Smart App Control.

Microsoft’s determination to improve user experience is evident through these enhancements and their efforts to ease the transition to Windows 11. As more people recognize the benefits and increased security that come with the upgrade, the adoption of Windows 11 is likely to continue its upward trajectory.
