Micron has teamed up with NVIDIA to revolutionize high-performance memory products, perfectly tailored for cutting-edge chips like the HGX B300 NVL16 and GB300 NVL72. This dynamic collaboration was announced at the prestigious GTC 2025 event, where Micron introduced its groundbreaking 12-High HBM3E and LPDDR5X-based SOCAMM memory technologies, strategically designed to elevate the performance and efficiency of AI platforms.
Renowned memory leaders like Micron, along with competitors such as SK Hynix and Samsung, are in a race to provide the most powerful memory solutions for NVIDIA’s state-of-the-art Blackwell data center GPUs. While SK Hynix has been a crucial supplier in this field, Micron has made significant strides with its latest HBM3E and SOCAMM offerings. These innovations promise unparalleled performance enhancements for high-demand AI applications.
Micron’s 12-High HBM3E memory is tailored for both the HGX B300 NVL16 and GB300 NVL72 platforms, while its LPDDR5X SOCAMM (small outline compression attached memory module) is destined for the NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip. The impressive 36 GB capacity of the HBM3E 12H memory represents a 50% increase in total memory capacity compared to its 8-High predecessor, allowing more complex AI workloads to run seamlessly on NVIDIA GPUs.
Such advancements are pivotal as they enable the Blackwell Ultra GPU to accommodate much larger models, even allowing massive datasets like Meta Llama 405B to fit on a single GPU. Beyond heightened memory capacity, the HBM3E innovations also reduce power consumption by 20%, making them a perfect fit for the demanding environment of data centers.
Micron’s LPDDR5X SOCAMM also stands out in the field of high-performance computing with remarkable power efficiency. This memory module, compact at just 14x90mm, occupies merely a third of the space required by RDIMMs while delivering up to 128 GB per module. By leveraging 16-die stacks of LPDDR5X memory, it offers over 2.5 times the bandwidth of traditional memory solutions, making it an ideal choice for advanced data processing.
In its quest to offer leading-edge technologies, Micron’s comprehensive portfolio includes revolutionary products like the GDDR7 memory used in NVIDIA’s Blackwell RTX 50 series GPUs, as well as high-capacity DDR5 RDIMMs and MRDIMMs. Additionally, they provide exceptional storage solutions with their Micron 9550 NVMe and 7450 NVMe SSDs, showcasing their dedication to pushing the boundaries of technology performance.
As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, collaborations like that of Micron and NVIDIA are setting new standards, driving memory innovations that power the next generation of AI platforms and data centers.
