MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 to Use N3P Process for 2025 Flagship Chip

The buzz around MediaTek’s highly anticipated Dimensity 9500 is electrifying the tech world. Slated for a grand debut in October 2025, this cutting-edge processor is set to adopt TSMC’s N3P process, a strategic choice that deviates from the rumored 2nm node due to the current challenges of high costs and limited production capacity. It’s a smart move, especially with giants like Apple eyeing TSMC’s 2nm technology for their upcoming M5 series chips.

The architectural transformation in the Dimensity 9500 is as exciting as it is innovative, introducing a 2+6 core layout. This includes two powerhouse Cortex-X930 “super cores” and six robust Cortex-A730 performance cores, promising boosted clock speeds that could soar past the 4 GHz mark. The rumored support for the SME instruction set adds another layer of intrigue to its potential.

If we draw a comparison to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9400 features a different core composition with a single Cortex-X925 super core complemented by a trio of Cortex-X4 large cores and four Cortex-A720 large cores. Industry insiders hint that the new X930 cores could deliver a leap in single-core performance, making it a compelling upgrade.

This launch sets up an exciting face-off against Samsung’s Exynos 2600, which is anticipated to be crafted using Samsung Foundry’s 2nm process. The competition could heat up as both chips might power flagship devices, with whispers suggesting that Exynos 2600 might appear in Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and S26 series.

While the N3P process might not reach the zenith of power efficiency expected from a 2nm process, it still marks a significant enhancement over the N3E process employed in the Dimensity 9400. This decision also mirrors a broader trend in the tech industry, where major players are reconsidering immediate transitions to TSMC’s 2nm node due to the financial and production hurdles currently at play.

As the launch date inches closer, anticipation is building to see how MediaTek’s latest marvel will redefine performance standards and resonate with consumers seeking top-tier innovation.
