MediaTek is facing difficulties in gathering interest for its chipset with Windows OEMs

MediaTek’s Challenge: Bringing Their High-End Chipsets to Windows Laptops Amidst Tepid Interest

NVIDIA and MediaTek were reportedly set to collaborate on a revolutionary AI smartphone chip, anticipated to debut at Computex 2025. However, recent developments suggest that while MediaTek has emerged as a significant player in the smartphone chipset market, it faces substantial hurdles in gaining traction within the Windows notebook sector. Manufacturers seem hesitant to integrate this silicon into their products, posing challenges for MediaTek’s growth in this area.

The Kompanio Ultra 910, based on TSMC’s advanced 3nm technology, isn’t faring well either, as companies show limited interest. Microsoft’s lack of support further solidifies Qualcomm’s dominance in the ARM-based notebook arena. Conversations at Computex 2025 revealed that MediaTek’s debut in this space might be delayed due to a weak partnership with both Microsoft and notebook manufacturers.

This situation leaves Qualcomm as the primary player, with the Kompanio Ultra 910 missing its expected entry. The reasons behind this barrier remain unclear, as does the influence Microsoft or Qualcomm might exert in this context. Previously, MediaTek aimed to power Windows Phone models, but strategic interests allegedly stalled negotiations, with many devices opting for Snapdragon SoCs.

While the launch of this AI smartphone chip might be postponed, stay tuned for future updates on its progress.
