Maneater 2 Surfaces with a 2027 Release Window

Maneater 2 Announced for 2027 With Unreal Engine 5, New Shark, and a Deadly Theme Park Setting

Tripwire Interactive has officially revealed Maneater 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2020 open-world shark action RPG. The new game is being developed with support from Demiurge Studios and is planned for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The announcement arrived during Sony’s September 2026 State of Play showcase, giving fans their first look at the return of the chaotic “ShaRkPG” formula that made the original Maneater stand out. Store pages are already available for players who want to wishlist the game ahead of launch.

Since its debut in 2020, followed by the Truth Quest expansion in 2021, the Maneater franchise has attracted more than 20 million players worldwide. With Maneater 2, Tripwire Interactive appears ready to expand the concept with a bigger setting, a fresh protagonist, and more destructive freedom.

This time, the action moves away from the swampy bayous and coastal waters of the first game and into Neptune’s Kingdom, a lavish private-island theme park built around ancient Roman-inspired luxury. The location is described as an extravagant seaside playground, mixing the spectacle of Las Vegas with the charm and absurdity of classic amusement parks.

Players will take control of a young female bull shark trapped inside the park during an exclusive preview event. Things spiral out of control after Neptune’s Kingdom’s marine research division goes too far with its experiments, pushing the boundaries of both technology and ethics. What starts as an elite showcase quickly becomes a feeding frenzy.

Neptune’s Kingdom is designed as a multi-layered aquatic sandbox filled with different biomes, currents, waterways, rides, and towering architecture. The park itself becomes both a playground and a prison, giving players plenty of opportunities to explore, hunt, destroy, and fight for freedom.

The familiar gameplay loop from the first Maneater returns, but with a new twist. The original focus on eating, exploring, and evolving now adds a fourth major element: escaping. Survival is no longer just about becoming the ocean’s top predator; it is also about breaking out of a controlled environment built to contain and exploit marine life.

As players hunt their way through Neptune’s Kingdom, they will consume a wide range of prey, from pufferfish, jumbo crabs, piranhas, and groupers to unfortunate VIP guests caught in the chaos. Feeding earns resources that can be used to upgrade the shark’s body, including her teeth, fins, and other genetic traits.

These genetic modifications unlock new abilities, helping the shark become faster, stronger, deadlier, and better equipped to tear through the park’s defenses. Fans of the first game can expect the same over-the-top progression system, where evolution turns a dangerous predator into an unstoppable force.

Chris Parnell is also returning as Trip Westhaven, the disgraced reality TV host whose dry, one-sided commentary helped give the original Maneater its darkly comedic personality. His narration is expected to once again follow the carnage as Neptune’s Kingdom collapses into total mayhem.

One of the biggest upgrades for Maneater 2 is its move to Unreal Engine 5. The sequel is expected to deliver improved lighting, richer environments, and more realistic water effects, which should make the theme park’s aquatic zones feel more dynamic and visually impressive.

Tripwire Interactive will self-publish Maneater 2 digitally, while PLAION will handle physical retail distribution. The game is currently scheduled to launch sometime in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

With a new shark, a luxurious theme park full of targets, expanded evolution mechanics, and the power of Unreal Engine 5, Maneater 2 looks set to bring back the chaotic fun that made the original such a memorable open-world action RPG.
