Rision Magic and Magic Pro Turn Smartphones Into Compact Thermal Imaging Cameras
Rision has introduced two compact thermal imaging cameras designed to bring professional-style temperature detection to Apple iPhones and Android smartphones. The new Rision Magic and Rision Magic Pro connect through USB-C, making them portable tools for inspections, repairs, outdoor use, and everyday heat detection tasks.
Both thermal cameras are capable of measuring temperatures from -20 ºC to +600 ºC, giving users a wide detection range for different environments and applications. According to the company, temperature readings should stay within a 2 percent margin of the actual value, which makes the devices useful for identifying overheating components, checking insulation, spotting heat leaks, inspecting electrical systems, or monitoring machinery.
One of the key advantages of the Rision Magic series is convenience. Instead of carrying a larger standalone thermal camera, users can simply attach the compact module to a compatible smartphone and use the companion app to view and capture thermal images. The app can also add GPS coordinates and a watermark to images, which is especially helpful for technicians, inspectors, and field workers who need to document their findings.
For reporting, the app can automatically generate PDF reports, helping users save time when preparing inspection summaries or sharing results with clients and colleagues. This feature makes the Magic and Magic Pro more practical for professional workflows, not just casual use.
The cameras are also designed to be lightweight and efficient. Each unit uses only 0.32 watts of power and draws energy directly from the smartphone through the USB-C connection, so no separate battery is required. The aluminum housing weighs just 25 grams, making the device easy to carry in a pocket, tool bag, or backpack.
The Rision Magic and Rision Magic Pro are now available through the manufacturer’s online store. The Rision Magic is priced at $119 with a launch discount, while the more advanced Magic Pro is available for $299.
