The tech world has been buzzing about the performance benchmarks for these chips, especially the M4 Pro, which astonishingly outpaces the M2 Ultra in multi-core performance. Now, leaked Geekbench 6 Metal scores for the M4 Max chip have surfaced, revealing impressive advancements in Apple’s System on a Chip (SoC) technology, offering exciting performance gains users can anticipate with these new processors.
The M4 Max chip, boasting a 40-core GPU, shows a significant improvement in benchmarks, nearly 25% higher than last year’s version. The Geekbench Metal scores, shared on social media, compare the latest scores with those of previous Max variants from earlier M series chips. The Metal score is an indicator of the chip’s graphical prowess and its efficiency in handling complex tasks. The leaked scores reveal a substantial single-core performance upsurge of about 45% compared to the M3 Max chip. In terms of the Metal score, the M4 Max achieved an astounding 192,532 points, showcasing the chip’s formidable capabilities.
For perspective, the tested M4 Max with a 40-core GPU compares to the 76-core M2 Ultra, which received 221,646 points. Although the performance difference is evident, the ratio of GPU cores should also be taken into account. In contrast, last year’s M3 Max scored 154,860 points in the Metal test, indicating that the M4 Max has experienced a notable speed boost in graphics performance. It comfortably bridges the gap between previous Ultra and Max chips.
A higher Geekbench Metal score equates to enhanced raw processing power, enabling the M4 Max to tackle demanding tasks like video rendering and editing with ease. While the chip is theoretically capable of running contemporary AAA gaming titles, the extent to which game developers utilize this potential remains to be seen. Currently, only a limited selection of games fully leverage Apple Silicon, and the ultimate decision lies with developers.
The M4 Max impresses with a single-core score of 4,060 and a multi-core score of 26,675, demonstrating clear superiority over last year’s M3 Max chips.
