LG 32U990A 6K monitor gets DisplayHDR 600, 450-nit SDR, and Thunderbolt 5 versatility
LG’s 31.5-inch 32U990A is shaping up to be a compelling creator-focused 6K monitor, with new details confirming VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification. That means the panel can peak at up to 600 nits in HDR, while standard SDR brightness reaches a strong 450 nits—useful for color-critical work in bright studios and offices.
Built around a Nano IPS panel, the 32U990A targets professionals who need accuracy and wide gamut coverage. It delivers 10-bit color and claims coverage of 99.5% Adobe RGB and 98.5% DCI-P3, making it suitable for photography, video grading, and design. The 6144×3456 resolution provides ample canvas and sharpness at 31.5 inches, paired with a standard 60 Hz refresh rate.
One of the standout features is connectivity. LG positions this as the first 6K monitor to integrate Thunderbolt 5, offering up to 80 Gbps in each direction for uncompressed display signals and high-speed data. That single-cable setup can power a workstation-style desk, with 96W Power Delivery for fast laptop charging and multiple additional USB-C ports for peripherals. While classic DisplayPort 2.1 bandwidth would be sufficient for a 6K/60 signal, Thunderbolt 5 adds the flexibility to run your display, storage, and accessories without compromising visual quality.
Design-wise, expect slim bezels and an ergonomic stand to fine-tune height, tilt, and more. A note for HDR purists: there’s no full-array local dimming or miniLED zone control, so while HDR600 delivers punch and specular highlight pop, it won’t match the contrast performance of miniLED or OLED solutions.
