Lenovo Legion C700 Cloud Gaming Handheld Teased With Tencent START Support
Lenovo’s Legion gaming brand has officially teased the Legion C700, a new handheld gaming device designed around cloud gaming. Unlike traditional portable gaming PCs that rely heavily on powerful internal hardware, the C700 appears to focus on instant access to games through streaming, thanks to a partnership with Tencent START.
The teaser confirms that Lenovo is preparing to reveal more information in August. For now, the company has only shown early promotional renders, but they already give a clear look at the handheld’s design direction.
The Legion C700 is shown in a clean white finish with a familiar gaming layout. Its controls use an asymmetric arrangement similar to modern Xbox-style controllers, with the D-pad and left analog stick positioned on the lower-left side, while the ABXY buttons and right analog stick sit on the upper-right side. This design choice should feel comfortable for players already used to mainstream console controllers.
The back of the device appears to include rear buttons and a vented section, suggesting Lenovo is still paying attention to ergonomics and cooling, even if the device is mainly intended for cloud gaming. The display shown in the teaser features a grid of game thumbnails, highlighting its connection to Tencent START and its focus on quick game access.
Lenovo’s promotional message roughly translates to “break down the barriers, jump into battle instantly,” which fits the idea behind a cloud gaming handheld. Instead of downloading large games or relying on expensive hardware, players may be able to launch supported titles quickly through streaming, assuming they have a strong internet connection.
The Legion C700 is not Lenovo’s first experiment with this type of device. The company previously worked on a similar Android-based handheld called the Legion Play, which was also tied to Tencent software. However, that device never reached the market. The new C700 suggests Lenovo may be ready to revisit the cloud gaming handheld concept with a more serious launch plan.
At the moment, many important details are still unknown. Lenovo has not confirmed the processor, display size, resolution, refresh rate, battery capacity, operating system, price, or release regions. It is also unclear whether the triggers will support analog input, a feature that would be useful for racing games and other titles that benefit from pressure-sensitive controls.
The device is expected to be revealed more fully in August, possibly alongside Lenovo’s upcoming Y700 “Wuji” compact gaming tablet. That timing could make August an important month for Lenovo’s portable gaming lineup.
If Lenovo prices the Legion C700 competitively, it could appeal to players who want a lightweight handheld focused on streaming rather than a bulky portable PC.
