Lenovo’s Legion 7i is shaping up to be one of the most appealing mid-range gaming laptops you can buy if you want strong performance in a slimmer, more travel-friendly 16-inch design. It pairs a high-core-count Intel HX-series processor with Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, aiming to deliver smooth gameplay without the brick-like bulk many gaming notebooks still carry.
A big part of the Legion 7i’s appeal is the hardware balance. Inside, it uses a 20-core Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX CPU, which helps it compete aggressively with other laptops in the same price class for both gaming and CPU-heavy tasks. Graphics are handled by a 115W GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, giving it the horsepower needed for fast-paced titles and high-refresh gaming. In sustained heavy workloads, performance can dip slightly over time, with testing showing about an 8% drop after multiple consecutive benchmark loops—worth keeping in mind if you frequently run long renders or extended CPU stress loads.
Where the Legion 7i really stands out visually is the screen. It comes with a 16-inch glossy OLED display at 2560 x 1600 (2.5K), delivering sharp detail and the deep contrast OLED panels are known for. Color performance is also a highlight, with near-complete DCI-P3 coverage (99.6%), making it a strong choice not just for gaming but also for creators who edit photos or video. A 165Hz refresh rate rounds things out nicely, giving competitive games the fluid motion most gamers want without forcing you into an ultra-premium price tier.
Design-wise, Lenovo keeps things practical. The hinge opens a full 180 degrees, which is useful for flexible setups and comfortable viewing angles. Port selection is solid for a modern gaming laptop too, covering gaming monitors, fast storage, and dock-like connectivity. You get two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 2.1 and 100W power delivery, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1 and power delivery, an SD card reader, plus WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Upgradability is another win. The 32GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and the 1TB SSD aren’t locked down, thanks to dual SODIMM slots and two M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots. Even the wireless networking card is accessible and user-replaceable, which is great news for anyone who keeps laptops longer and prefers to upgrade instead of replace.
Of course, there are trade-offs. Like many thin-and-powerful gaming laptops, the Legion 7i can get noticeably loud when pushed hard, and temperatures run on the warmer side under load. Battery life also isn’t a strong suit—expect roughly four and a half hours in a wireless browsing scenario—so it’s better viewed as a portable gaming machine than an all-day unplugged productivity laptop.
Overall, the Lenovo Legion 7i makes a compelling case for gamers who want a sleek OLED gaming laptop with strong mid-range performance, modern connectivity, and easy upgrades, as long as they’re comfortable with louder fans and modest battery life.
