Kia Postpones Tesla Supercharger Integration for EV6 and EV9 Models at Eleventh Hour

Kia has announced a delay in granting Tesla Supercharger access for U.S. customers driving its popular EV6 and EV9 models. Originally scheduled to begin on January 15th, the new timeline has pushed access to these 16,500 North American Charging Standard (NACS) fast chargers to sometime within the first quarter of 2025. Thus, eager drivers might have to wait until as late as March 31st for this enhanced convenience.

The delay, which was confirmed on January 14th without an explanation, leaves some Kia customers who anticipated early adoption of this charging option in a state of anticipation. This hold-up also affects the shipment of complimentary NACS adapters. These adapters, designed to enable charging at these stations, are slated for delivery in early 2025 to any U.S. customer who purchased a 2024 Kia EV6, a 2024 Kia EV9, or a 2025 Kia EV9 after September 4th, 2024.

For those who acquired a Kia EV6 or EV9 before the mentioned date, rest assured that adapters will eventually be available for purchase through Kia dealers, although specific availability details remain undisclosed. Looking ahead, the 2025 Kia EV6 and the future iteration of the 2025 Kia EV9 are expected to feature an integrated NACS port, simplifying the charging process for future buyers.

This anticipated integration with a vast network of chargers underscores Kia’s commitment to expanding charging options, but for now, patience will be key for current EV6 and EV9 owners eager to plug into the Tesla Supercharger network.
