Keychron Unveils Sleek Wireless Low-Profile Keyboards: Hall Effect and Mechanical Models with Warm Wood Accents

Keychron is gearing up to expand its low-profile lineup with two new wireless 75% keyboards designed to appeal to both gamers and everyday typists: the K3 Ultra 8K and the K3 HE. While final pricing and the full spec sheets are being saved for launch day, Keychron has already shared enough details to paint a clear picture of what these compact boards are aiming to deliver: high-speed wireless performance, modern low-profile feel, and a strong focus on customization.

Both models are built around a sleek, space-saving 75% layout that keeps dedicated arrow keys and a function row while trimming the footprint for smaller desks and cleaner setups. On the materials side, the K3 Ultra 8K is listed with an ABS bottom case paired with aluminum rails and rosewood edge accents, a combination that should feel more premium than typical lightweight low-profile boards while maintaining portability.

Connectivity is a major highlight. The K3 Ultra 8K supports USB-C wired mode, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.3. That gives it the flexibility to switch between a low-latency gaming connection on 2.4 GHz and multi-device productivity on Bluetooth, while still offering a wired option when you want maximum stability.

Keychron is also leaning heavily into customization. The K3 Ultra 8K uses hot-swappable PCBs that support both 3-pin and 5-pin Gateron Low-Profile 2.0 switches, making it easy to experiment with different switch types without soldering. Default switch options include Keychron Milk POM Red (linear), Brown (tactile), and Banana (sharp tactile), offering three distinct feels out of the box.

For lighting and aesthetics, the K3 Ultra 8K includes per-key north-facing RGB backlighting. Keycaps are double-shot PBT in Keychron’s LSA low-profile profile and are described as non-shine-through, which should prioritize durability and texture over having legends illuminated directly through the caps.

One of the biggest performance talking points is polling rate. The K3 Ultra 8K supports 8,000 Hz, 2,000 Hz, and 1,000 Hz over wired and 2.4 GHz connections, with 133 Hz over Bluetooth. For competitive players, that high polling capability could be a key selling point, especially in a low-profile form factor where ultra-fast specs are still relatively rare.

Battery life is another standout claim. Keychron reports up to 550 hours on the K3 Ultra 8K with backlighting off, tested in 2.4 GHz mode. That kind of endurance could make it an ideal “set it and forget it” wireless keyboard for workstations and gaming rigs alike, assuming real-world use lands close to that estimate.

The K3 HE, meanwhile, is shaped around Hall effect magnetic switch technology (HE PCB with magnetic switches), which typically enables features like adjustable actuation and more precise input tuning compared to traditional mechanical switches. While Keychron hasn’t confirmed every construction detail for the K3 HE yet, it’s reasonable to expect it may share design elements with other Keychron HE boards, potentially including an ABS bottom case similar to earlier HE special edition models.

There’s also early speculation around switch compatibility. Keychron’s Ultra-Fast Lime Low-Profile switches may use north-pole magnets, similar to what has been seen in prior Ultra-Fast Lime implementations. If that holds true, the K3 HE could be compatible with other “universal” low-profile Hall effect switches, opening the door for enthusiasts who like to tune sound and feel by swapping switch sets.

Travel distance is one of the few areas still unclear. Keychron has confirmed that its Milk POM low-profile switches have 3.1 mm total travel, but it hasn’t published the total travel for the Ultra-Fast Lime low-profile switches yet. Based on common low-profile switch designs, a range around 2.8 mm to 3.5 mm is plausible, and given the shorter-travel behavior associated with the Ultra-Fast Lime family, the lower end of that range may be more likely.

Pricing is still under wraps. So far, Keychron has only mentioned a small reservation fee for early-bird access, meaning shoppers will need to wait for the official reveal to know where these keyboards land in the market.

Keychron has set the official launch date for February 12. That’s when full specifications, final features, and pricing should be confirmed for both the K3 Ultra 8K and the K3 HE. For anyone searching for a fast wireless low-profile gaming keyboard with a compact 75% layout, these two releases look like they’re aiming to combine premium styling, enthusiast-friendly customization, and performance-focused specs in one streamlined package.
