Mouse X2 debuts as a 981 g 12.2-inch laptop with AMD Ryzen AI power and Wi-Fi 7
Japanese PC brand Mouse Computer has introduced the Mouse X2, a compact and lightweight laptop designed for users who want strong everyday performance in a highly portable form factor. Weighing just 981 g, the new 12.2-inch notebook combines AMD Ryzen processors, a sharp 1200p display, modern wireless connectivity, and expandable memory in a chassis built for travel, work, and study.
The Mouse X2 is aimed at buyers who want something smaller than a typical 13-inch laptop without giving up useful performance. Its 12.2-inch display features a 1920 x 1200 resolution, giving it a taller 16:10 aspect ratio that is well suited for browsing, documents, spreadsheets, and multitasking. Mouse Computer also claims 100% sRGB color coverage, which should make the screen suitable for general creative work, photo viewing, and media consumption.
A 180-degree hinge adds extra flexibility, allowing the laptop to lie flat on a desk for presentations, collaboration, or easier viewing in tight spaces. The compact body measures approximately 27.7 x 21 x 1.9 cm, making it easy to carry in a backpack or small work bag.
Performance is one of the most interesting parts of the Mouse X2. The laptop is offered with AMD APU options, including the Ryzen 5 216, Ryzen AI 5 340, and Ryzen AI 7 350.
The entry-level Ryzen 5 216 uses a six-core design with two Zen 4 cores and four Zen 4c efficiency-focused cores. Its performance should be close to that of the Ryzen 5 8540U, making it a solid option for office tasks, web browsing, video calls, streaming, and light productivity.
The Ryzen AI 5 340 steps things up with a newer Zen 5-based architecture. This processor also uses six cores, split between three Zen 5 cores and three Zen 5c cores. It is expected to deliver strong multi-core performance for a small laptop and should compete well against modern Intel Core Ultra chips in its class.
For users who want the most power available in this compact system, the Ryzen AI 7 350 brings an eight-core setup with four Zen 5 cores and four Zen 5c cores. This chip offers a noticeable performance boost over the Ryzen AI 5 340 and should be a better fit for heavier multitasking, content creation, coding, and demanding productivity workloads.
The Mouse X2 can be equipped with up to 32 GB of DDR5 memory. Some configurations ship with 16 GB RAM and include an empty SODIMM slot, giving users the option to expand memory later. This is a useful feature in a market where many ultraportable laptops now rely on fully soldered RAM with no upgrade path.
Storage is handled by a 500 GB NVMe M.2 SSD, which should provide fast boot times, quick app launches, and responsive file access. The laptop also includes a 60 Wh battery, which is relatively generous for a device of this size and weight. While real-world battery life will depend on processor choice, screen brightness, and workload, the battery capacity suggests that the X2 is built with mobile productivity in mind.
Connectivity is another strong point. The Mouse X2 includes Wi-Fi 7 for next-generation wireless networking, Bluetooth 5, and gigabit LAN for users who still rely on wired connections. The port selection includes USB Type-A, HDMI, and a microSD card slot, making the laptop more practical than many slim ultraportables that depend heavily on adapters.
For video calls and secure login, the laptop features a 2 MP webcam with Windows Hello support. That means users can log in using facial recognition, adding convenience for business, school, and remote work environments.
Mouse Computer is offering the X2 in three color options, giving buyers some choice in design. The overall package appears to target users who want a compact laptop that is easier to carry than a standard ultrabook but still powerful enough for modern Windows workloads.
Pricing in Japan starts at ¥239,800, or about $1,545, for the Ryzen AI 5 model with 16 GB RAM and 500 GB storage. The Ryzen AI 7 version with the same memory and storage is priced at ¥259,000, or around $1,670.
At the moment, the Mouse X2 is mainly available through Mouse Computer’s domestic sales channels in Japan. The company does not usually offer broad international launches for its laptops, so buyers outside Japan may need to consider importing if they want one.
With its sub-1 kg weight, AMD Ryzen AI processor options, 12.2-inch 1920 x 1200 display, Wi-Fi 7, expandable RAM, and practical port selection, the Mouse X2 stands out as an appealing lightweight laptop for users who value portability without settling for entry-level performance.
