Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro may look so familiar that current iPhone 17 Pro cases could still fit the new flagship. That is the latest claim gaining attention after a major accessory maker appeared to list a protective case as compatible with both models.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to bring a few visible changes, including a smaller punch-hole area and fresh color options. However, the overall body shape, dimensions, button placement, and camera layout may remain very close to the iPhone 17 Pro series. If true, this would make the iPhone 18 Pro one of Apple’s more subtle year-over-year design updates.
Recent accessory listings have added more fuel to the rumor. A protective case from a well-known case brand was reportedly seen at a major U.S. retailer with packaging that mentioned support for both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro. That suggests case makers may already be preparing for Apple’s next flagship launch based on early measurements, supply chain details, or prototype dummy units.
Still, it is not yet clear whether accessory manufacturers have received official specifications from Apple or are simply relying on leaked dimensions and dummy models. Case makers often race to launch products ahead of a new iPhone release, and early listings can sometimes be based on educated guesses rather than final hardware details.
Compatibility may also differ between the two Pro models. While iPhone 17 Pro cases could potentially work with the iPhone 18 Pro, the same may not be true for iPhone 17 Pro Max cases and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Rumors suggest the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max may feature an upgraded main camera with a variable aperture. If that change leads to a thicker or redesigned camera module, older cases may not fit properly unless they have a wide open camera cutout.
Apple is expected to officially introduce the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in mid-September, alongside a new premium iPhone model and the next generation of Apple Watch. Until then, case compatibility remains unofficial, but the early signs point to a familiar design for the iPhone 18 Pro.
For buyers, this could be good news. If the iPhone 18 Pro keeps nearly the same dimensions as the iPhone 17 Pro, users upgrading from the previous model may be able to reuse some existing accessories. However, anyone planning to buy a case early should wait for Apple’s official announcement to avoid fit issues, especially with the Pro Max model.
