iPhone 18 Pro Max Price Could Climb as Production Costs Reportedly Jump by $300

Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max could get a major price hike as production costs rise

Apple’s next ultra-premium iPhone may be noticeably more expensive, especially for buyers who want the highest storage options. New analyst estimates suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could face a significant increase in production costs, with Apple likely to pass part of that increase on to customers.

According to recent analysis from J.P. Morgan, the base iPhone 18 Pro model may not see a dramatic jump in manufacturing costs. The most affordable version is expected to cost Apple around $540 to produce, which would be roughly 5% higher than the comparable 256 GB iPhone 17 Pro. Apple is reportedly expected to soften the impact of rising memory prices by adjusting other parts of the supply chain and using cost-saving measures where possible.

However, the situation appears very different for the higher-storage iPhone 18 Pro Max models. Counterpoint Research estimates that production costs for the iPhone 18 Pro Max with 1 TB of storage could rise by around $300 compared with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The rumored 2 TB version may see an even larger cost increase, making it one of the most expensive iPhones for Apple to manufacture.

The biggest reasons behind the increase are believed to be higher DRAM and NAND flash storage prices. These components are essential for memory and storage, and rising demand across the tech industry has pushed costs upward. On top of that, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to feature Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip and upgraded camera hardware, both of which could add further pressure to the bill of materials.

Interestingly, not every component is expected to become more expensive. Some parts, including the display, may cost slightly less than last year’s equivalent components. Still, those savings may not be enough to balance out the rising cost of memory, storage, the processor, and camera improvements.

As a result, Apple is expected to raise the price of the iPhone 18 Pro Max by an average of about $200. Models with larger storage capacities could receive even steeper increases, meaning the top-end version may become considerably more expensive than the current generation.

For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max currently starts at $1,199 for the 256 GB version, while the fully loaded 2 TB model costs $1,999. If Apple follows the expected pricing trend, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could push the price of the highest-end configuration well beyond that level.

Even with a price increase, Apple may still have to accept lower profit margins than before. That suggests the company may not be able to fully pass rising production costs on to consumers without making the iPhone 18 Pro Max feel too expensive, even by premium smartphone standards.

If these estimates prove accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could become a major test of how much buyers are willing to pay for Apple’s most advanced smartphone. With a faster A20 Pro chip, improved cameras, and expanded storage options, the device may offer meaningful upgrades, but the higher price could make storage choices more important than ever for customers planning to upgrade.
