iPhone 18 Pro leak points to a new Dark Cherry color, familiar camera design, and major internal upgrades
Apple’s next Pro iPhones may be getting a moodier, more premium look. A new leak involving alleged iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max camera protective covers has added more weight to earlier rumors that Apple is preparing a new “Dark Cherry” finish for its 2026 flagship lineup.
The color is described as a deep wine-red shade, giving the iPhone 18 Pro series a richer and more refined appearance compared to the brighter Cosmic Orange option seen on the iPhone 17 Pro models. If the leak is accurate, Dark Cherry will become the standout color for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Alongside Dark Cherry, Apple is expected to offer the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver. These shades suggest Apple may be aiming for a more elegant and restrained palette this time around, rather than leaning heavily into bold or playful colors. That could mean the more vibrant finishes are being saved for the standard iPhone 18, which is rumored to arrive later, possibly in spring 2027.
The leaked camera cover images also suggest that Apple will keep the same general triple-camera layout introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro series. While the rear design may look familiar at first glance, the camera hardware itself could receive one of the biggest upgrades in years.
Rumors point to a new 48MP main camera with a variable aperture system. This would allow the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to better control light intake, depth of field, and low-light performance. For everyday users, that could mean sharper night shots, more natural portraits, and greater flexibility when shooting in changing lighting conditions.
To make room for the upgraded camera hardware, Apple may slightly increase the thickness of the rear camera plateau. That means the iPhone 18 Pro models might not look dramatically different from the back, but the internal camera improvements could be substantial.
Software is also expected to play a major role. Apple is reportedly preparing a redesigned, more advanced camera app with iOS 27. The new app could bring a more professional shooting experience to the iPhone, potentially offering better controls for photography and video recording. If true, this would pair well with the rumored variable aperture lens and help Apple position the iPhone 18 Pro as a more serious tool for content creators.
On the front, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may feature a smaller Dynamic Island cutout. Apple has been gradually working toward reducing the amount of visible display interruption, and the 2026 Pro models could take another step in that direction. While a completely uninterrupted screen may still be further away, a smaller Dynamic Island would make the display feel more immersive.
The biggest changes, however, may happen inside the phone. The iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to be powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, reportedly built on a 2nm process. That could bring significant improvements in performance, power efficiency, gaming, photography processing, and AI-related tasks.
Apple Intelligence is also expected to become a major part of the iPhone 18 Pro experience, especially with a more capable version of Siri. Apple has been working to make Siri more context-aware and useful across apps, and the iPhone 18 Pro may be one of the first models to fully showcase those upgrades.
Even with these improvements, the iPhone 18 Pro may not be the only major device at Apple’s expected September event. Rumors suggest Apple could also introduce its first foldable iPhone, possibly positioned as an ultra-premium model. If that device appears at the same event, it may attract much of the attention, even if the iPhone 18 Pro brings meaningful upgrades of its own.
For now, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max appear to be shaping up as polished, camera-focused flagships rather than complete redesigns. The rumored Dark Cherry finish could give the lineup a fresh identity, while the 48MP variable aperture camera, A20 Pro chip, upgraded AI features, smaller Dynamic Island, and revamped camera app may deliver the real reasons to upgrade.
If the leaks prove accurate, Apple’s 2026 Pro iPhones will be less about dramatic visual change and more about refinement, performance, and smarter camera technology. And for many iPhone users, that may be exactly what matters most.
