First iPhone 16 Pro teardown

iPhone 16 Pro Teardown Unveils Compact A18 Pro Logic Board with Enhanced Thermal Management

Apple has recently addressed several complaints from iPhone 15 owners by introducing a host of internal changes, notably enhancing the new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. A recent teardown has unveiled that the 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro features a completely redesigned logic board and a protective cover for the battery.

The teardown, conducted by REWA Technology, highlights significant improvements in the internal hardware of the iPhone 16 Pro. When we closely examine the two logic boards and batteries, the differences become quite apparent. The new A18 Pro logic board is not only smaller but also more densely packed compared to the A17 Pro found in the iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, it features a larger metal cover, which is likely designed to manage the thermal performance of the A18 Pro better.

One reason for the logic board’s reduced size could be to make room for a larger battery. Indeed, when comparing the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro batteries side-by-side, the newer model boasts an increased capacity and a metal shield. This shield plays a crucial role in enhancing heat transfer, ensuring that the device remains cooler during extended usage. Similar to previous models, the iPhone 16 Pro includes pull tabs that simplify battery removal, which is possibly a response to EU regulations aiming to make repairs easier.

Despite these notable improvements, the pre-order numbers for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have not met expectations. Early estimates show a 12.7% drop in pre-orders, with only 17 million units compared to their predecessors. It’s important to remember that this teardown video surfaced after the pre-orders began, so the new insights might influence more potential buyers to consider upgrading.

Apple continues to refine its devices, listening to customer feedback and implementing changes that enhance the user experience. As more people become aware of these internal upgrades, the perceptions and sales figures for the iPhone 16 Pro series may well improve.
