The HMD Fusion X1 is the latest innovation from HMD, born out of a collaboration with Xplora and unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2025. This unique smartphone is designed specifically with teenagers in mind, blending modern technology with crucial safety features, ensuring its appeal to both parents and young users alike.
The development of the HMD Fusion X1 emerged from HMD’s initiative, The Better Phone Project. This project was inspired by comprehensive research covering 25,000 parents and children across various countries, including Australia, India, the UAE, the UK, and the US. The survey highlighted alarming concerns regarding online safety, bullying, and unwanted contact from strangers, leading to the realization of the need for a child-friendly phone that offers robust protection both online and offline.
While the HMD Fusion X1 shares its roots with the HMD Fusion modular phone, it offers additional tailored features. Priced at a monthly subscription of €4.99, parents can utilize the phone’s custom software to monitor and guide their children’s smartphone experiences. This includes functionalities like setting screen time limits, approving app downloads, and monitoring their child’s real-time location. Parents can also create ten safe zones, receiving alerts whenever their child enters or leaves these areas. Historical location data over the past three days is also available.
Moreover, the safety features allow parents to restrict social media access, activate a school mode to minimize distractions, and enable emergency SOS calls. The phone also offers low battery alerts and remote access, allowing complete peace of mind for parents.
For teenagers, the HMD Fusion X1 is more than just an entry-level phone. It boasts a state-of-the-art 108MP rear camera and supports various case attachments to suit different needs, including the Fusion Gaming, Rugged, and Flashy Outfits. Plus, the phone is easily repairable, adding to its long-term usability.
Although pricing and availability details remain undisclosed, interested customers can sign up on HMD’s website for updates. The HMD Fusion X1 aims to strike a perfect balance by providing a modern smartphone experience for teenagers while reassuring parents with enhanced security measures.
