The Anoma A1 Optical watch is turning heads with its unique and artistic design. Featuring a rounded triangular case with engraved dials, it takes inspiration from modernist art, emphasizing high-end craftsmanship. Priced at £2,200 (around $2,925), this release follows the original A1 launched in June 2024.
Anoma, a relatively new player in the watch industry, infuses both art and industrial design into its creations. The brand was founded by a team aiming to offer a fresh take on traditional Swiss watchmaking. Their previous releases often showcase geometric designs and collaborations with artists or influences from significant design movements. The A1 Optical seems to be the culmination of their artistic philosophy.
At first glance, the A1 Optical defies conventional watch shapes with its rounded triangular case, reminiscent of a 1950s Charlotte Perriand table. The soft, pebble-like edges make its 39mm size appear more compact, about 37mm on the wrist.
The real allure of the A1 Optical lies in its dial. With engraved, offset triangles, the ever-changing light can make the patterns shimmer, encouraging wearers to admire it from different angles. Some may find this artistic touch to be a bit distracting, but the beauty is undeniable. While it might take some adjustment for those who prefer quick readability, the design’s stunning visual appeal is hard to ignore.
Key specifications include a size of 39mm x 39mm that wears like a 37mm, a height of 9.45mm, and a case crafted from 316L grade steel. It operates with a Sellita SW100 automatic movement and offers 50m water resistance. The Italian leather strap comes with quick-release spring bars, and the watch is protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. The caseback features a perlage finish.
Limited to 300 numbered pieces, each watch will be accompanied by matching artwork, available for preorder on August 7 at 15:00 CEST. These special editions will be delivered in November, followed by the release of non-numbered pieces. This thoughtful touch makes the A1 Optical not just a timepiece but a piece of art to treasure.
