Get ready to say hello to the future of flexible and durable laptops with Framework’s exciting announcement! Today, Framework unveiled the latest upgrade to the Framework Laptop 13, now featuring AMD’s Strix Point APUs, as well as the new AMD Strix Halo-powered Framework Desktop. Both products continue the brand’s reputation for repairability and upgradeability. But that’s not all! The real star of the show is the introduction of the Framework 12—a convertible laptop built to withstand tough environments, making it ideal for students and professionals engaged in fieldwork.
Initially crafted with the educational sector in mind, the Framework 12 has quickly gained interest from a broader audience. The company shared that adults found the prototypes just as compelling, expanding its appeal beyond just students.
This innovative 2-in-1 device boasts a 1,920 × 1,200-pixel touch screen, complete with stylus support for creative tasks and note-taking. Although the specifics about the stylus’s pressure sensitivity remain under wraps, the display’s brightness of at least 400 nits promises clear viewing in various lighting conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
The Framework 12 is far from your standard school laptop. Inside, it packs a punch with Intel’s 13th-Gen Core i3 or Core i5 processor options, along with up to 48 GB of DDR5-5200 RAM. Add in 2 TB of NVMe storage, and you have a powerhouse ready for any challenge.
Designed with durability and cost-efficiency in mind, the Framework 12 features a robust polycarbonate and acrylic shell, fortified by an underlying metal frame. The addition of a shock-absorbing layer ensures that the device can handle rough handling without showing wear and tear. Its sleek, minimalist design maintains the sophisticated aesthetic that Framework is known for.
Connectivity is another highlight, as the Framework 12 retains the versatile expansion ports found in the Framework 13 and 16 models. It supports both Windows and Linux, catering to diverse user preferences.
Although the pricing details are still under wraps, excitement is already building. Pre-orders are expected to begin in April, with deliveries starting by mid-2025. Keep an eye out for more updates, as this laptop could redefine the standards for portable computing solutions.
