Dimensity 9400 has been officially announced

Introducing Dimensity 9400: MediaTek’s Pioneering 3nm Chipset with 35% CPU Boost Over Its Predecessor

MediaTek has officially unveiled its first second-generation 3nm chipset, the Dimensity 9400. This new system-on-chip, constructed using TSMC’s innovative architecture which also powers Apple’s latest M4, A18, and A18 Pro, marks a substantial leap in performance, efficiency, and AI capabilities over its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300. Let’s delve into what makes this latest release noteworthy.

The Dimensity 9400 sets a new standard in efficiency, boasting up to a staggering 40 percent improvement over the Dimensity 9300. It supports LPDDR5X memory, which offers superior bandwidth, pushing technological boundaries further forward.

Staying true to the path set by last year’s models, the Dimensity 9400 retains the ‘all performance core’ design, omitting efficiency cores. The CPU assembly includes a powerhouse Cortex-X925 core clocking in at 3.63GHz, alongside three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. The chipset is equipped with 12MB of L3 cache and 10MB of SLC cache. This is complemented by a robust 12-core ARM Immortalis-G925 GPU, which is capable of delivering 41 percent faster peak performance and enhances ray tracing speeds by 40 percent over the Dimensity 9300.

MediaTek has made impressive claims regarding CPU performance as well, stating that the Dimensity 9400 outpaces its predecessor by 35 percent in single-core operations and 28 percent in multi-core performance. Although it doesn’t support LPDD5T RAM, the LPDDR5X memory performs impressively with a bandwidth of 10.7GB/s. The AI aspect sees a boost with the new AI Agentic Engine, featuring a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that is 35 percent more power-efficient and can boost performance in Large Language Models by up to 80 percent.

On the photographic front, the Dimensity 9400 supports single cameras up to an astonishing 320MP and can handle video capture at 8K and 60FPS. The chipset doesn’t skimp on connectivity either, integrating Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and an advanced 5G modem capable of delivering downlink speeds of up to 7GB/s.

With a launch window set for the fourth quarter of this year, anticipation is building. Vivo is expected to be among the first to introduce devices powered by this cutting-edge 3nm chipset. An early leak suggests that Vivo’s most affordable Dimensity 9400 flagship will be priced at approximately $570, hinting at competitive pricing that appeals to a wide audience. As developments unfold, we’ll be updating you with the latest pricing details and more, so keep an eye out for those updates!
