Intel XeSS 2.1 SDK Introduces Advanced Upscaling, Frame-Generation, and Low-Latency Features for NVIDIA and AMD GPUs

Intel has unveiled its latest XeSS 2.1 SDK, introducing XeSS 2 Frame-Generation and Low-Latency technology support for NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. This exciting update allows users with a variety of graphics cards, including those from NVIDIA, AMD, and Qualcomm, to benefit from XeSS 2’s advanced features, expanding beyond the exclusive upscaling technologies previously available.

The XeSS 2.1 SDK incorporates several key features:

– Frame Generation paired with Low Latency support, accessible to non-Intel GPUs that meet Shader Model 6.4 requirements. However, standalone Xe Low Latency (XeLL) isn’t supported on these GPUs.
– Enhancements to the XeSS Super Resolution Vulkan API, including improved error reporting, better validation layer support, and numerous bug fixes and stability improvements.

These improvements will be accessible on any GPU supporting Shader Model 6.4, offering a broader range of users the benefits of these advanced technologies.

Originally announced alongside the Battlemage “Arc B-Series,” XeSS 2 technology is Intel’s first venture into frame generation using AI-powered XMX engines. The technology competes effectively with other upscaling solutions like FSR and DLSS by delivering comparable image quality and enhanced game performance. Although NVIDIA continues to lead with its DLSS multi-frame generation capabilities, Intel’s advances mark a significant step forward.

By May 2025, over 200 games have integrated XeSS support with more than 20 embracing XeSS 2. The new SDK paves the way for developers to incorporate XeSS 2 into more titles, broadening the scope of compatible GPUs and enhancing gaming experiences across the board.
