The anticipation is building for Intel’s upcoming release, as the soon-to-be-unveiled Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU has already made headlines with its impressive performance. This flagship processor from the Arrow Lake “Core Ultra Series 2” is set to redefine single-thread processing capabilities.
According to recent details shared on social media, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K has emerged at the top of the PassMark single-thread performance ranking. It surpasses the previous leader, the Core i9-14900K, by scoring a remarkable 5268 points in single-threaded tests—an 8.2% improvement over its predecessor.
Despite running at a maximum boost of 5.7 GHz, just under the Core i9-14900KS’s 6.2 GHz, the Ultra 9 285K has outperformed competitors, demonstrating its prowess with an 11% lead over the Ryzen 9 9950X and other contenders.
In multi-threaded scenarios, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K scored 46,872 points, which trails behind the multi-threaded performance of both the Core i9-14900K and the Ryzen 9 9950X. However, this difference could be attributed to the CPU’s design, which is focused on optimizing single-core tasks, with a notable absence of hyper-threading that affects multi-core performance.
The engineering marvel behind the Core Ultra 9 285K is its architecture, featuring 8 performance cores (P-cores) based on the Lion Cove architecture and 16 efficiency cores (E-cores) built on the Skymont architecture. Together, they combine for a total of 24 cores and 24 threads. The CPU also boasts a staggering 76 MB cache pool, split between 36 MB L3 and 40 MB L2, highlighting its robust design.
Clock speeds stand at 3.7 GHz for the P-Core and 3.2 GHz for the E-Core, with boost capabilities reaching up to 5.7 GHz and 4.6 GHz, respectively. Operating efficiently at a base TDP of 125W and peaking at 250W, the Ultra 9 285K is engineered for both power and prowess.
Set for an official launch soon, with retail availability rumored for late October, this CPU is poised to make a significant impact on the market. As anticipation mounts, tech enthusiasts and industry experts eagerly await more information on Intel’s latest innovation within its Arrow Lake lineup.
