Hunter Biden Vows $LAPTOP Project Will Press On After 97.8% Plunge

Hunter Biden’s $LAPTOP Token Crashes After Base Launch, Then Sees Trading Volume Surge

Hunter Biden’s newly launched $LAPTOP token made a dramatic entrance on Base, briefly soaring to nearly $200 before plunging to around $4.36 within its first hour of trading. The rapid rise and collapse immediately drew attention across the crypto market, especially because the token’s early fully diluted valuation appeared to approach $200 billion.

That headline figure, however, was heavily influenced by thin liquidity. With only limited funds available in trading pools, even relatively small buy and sell orders were able to move the price sharply. After the steep drop, the token’s implied valuation fell to roughly $5 billion.

Liquidity remained a key issue during the launch. The official Aerodrome pool reportedly held about $83,000 in USDC, while the Uniswap pool contained roughly $380,000 in USDC. Notably, Uniswap liquidity only became active after $LAPTOP had already lost more than 90% of its value, leaving early traders exposed to extreme volatility.

Following the crash, Biden said the project was not abandoning the token. He stated that the foundation’s account had been suspended but insisted that the foundation was “not stepping away from $LAPTOP.” He added that the team was working to restore the account and would use Medium for updates in the meantime.

The $LAPTOP project is closely tied to the long-running controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop, which became the subject of political debate and leaked materials after being left at a repair shop. The token appears to lean directly into that notoriety, using the name and narrative as part of its public identity.

The project also positions itself in contrast to Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin. One of the most notable features of the $LAPTOP distribution plan is an allocation aimed at people who lost money on $TRUMP, directly linking the two politically charged crypto projects.

According to the token structure, $LAPTOP has a total supply of 1 billion tokens. Around 20% of the supply is set aside for community airdrops. Another 30% is tied to a series of predetermined events, with those tokens either burned or donated to charity depending on whether the events happen. In addition, 50 million tokens are reserved for charity regardless of the outcome of those conditions.

The project also includes a clear warning to buyers: they should not expect Biden, the foundation, or anyone associated with the project to take actions designed to increase the token’s value. This kind of language is often used by token projects to distance themselves from expectations of profit, especially in the highly speculative memecoin sector.

About 30% of the total $LAPTOP supply is allocated to the founders, including Biden. Those tokens are locked for six months and then scheduled to vest over a two-year period.

As of September 10 at 06:00 PM GMT, $LAPTOP was trading near $0.7654, down 84% as it continued struggling to recover from its sharp post-launch sell-off. Despite the price collapse, trading volume had climbed 187%, suggesting that market activity was increasing as traders reacted to the steep decline.

The $LAPTOP launch highlights both the appeal and risk of politically themed crypto tokens. While high-profile branding can attract fast attention, limited liquidity, rapid price swings, and speculative trading can create extreme volatility within minutes. For now, $LAPTOP remains a closely watched token as traders assess whether it can stabilize after one of the more chaotic launches in recent memecoin activity.
