The Mate XT by Huawei is making waves as the only widely-produced tri-fold smartphone currently available on the market. Since its introduction at the end of summer 2024, this innovative device captured the attention of tech enthusiasts, but until now, it has been exclusive to China. However, Huawei is preparing to expand its reach by showcasing the Mate XT to a global audience.
While Samsung is rumored to be launching a tri-fold smartphone later this year, possibly alongside the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold6, Huawei is poised to become the trailblazer with its global release of the Mate XT. In a recently released teaser, Huawei underscores the importance of the Mate XT within its foldable smartphone lineage, which began back in 2019 with the launch of the original Mate X.
Notably absent from the video is any mention of the Mate X5, which remained exclusive to China. However, Huawei is focusing its efforts on the Mate XT as it prepares for a February 18 global launch. The Mate X6 was already introduced to international markets before the holiday season last year, suggesting Huawei’s strategic intent to lead the foldable segment across the globe.
The pricing of the Mate XT for international markets remains a mystery. In China, the smartphone was launched at a starting price of CNY 19,999 (approximately $2,750), but it will be interesting to see how Huawei positions its pricing strategy worldwide. This development is bound to capture the interest of tech aficionados eager to get their hands on the latest cutting-edge innovation from Huawei.
