Elon Musk’s social network X has finally introduced a feature that many users have been eagerly anticipating: the ability to edit direct messages.
This exciting update is currently available for iOS users. Over the weekend, one of X’s engineers revealed that this much-wanted feature has begun rolling out, with plans for it to be available on more platforms soon.
Here’s a quick guide on how to use the new edit feature on your iPhone:
1. Open any direct message chat in your X iOS app.
2. Long press on a message you’ve sent or tap the three-dot menu next to it.
3. Select the “Edit message” option to make your changes.
One of the standout aspects of this feature is the flexibility it offers. There is no time limit on editing messages, allowing you to go back and modify even older direct messages. However, it’s important to note that you can only make up to five edits per message. This restriction is identical to the edit limit X imposes on posts.
For security reasons, X maintains a log of all edited messages. However, unlike some platforms, it does not display a version history of the changes made to each message.
The introduction of message editing brings X up to par with other popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Messenger, all of which have long provided users with the ability to edit sent messages. Even Apple incorporated message editing with the release of iMessage in iOS 16.
With this innovative feature now rolling out, X continues to enhance its user experience by aligning with the functionalities of leading messaging platforms, promising a more flexible and user-friendly interaction for its audience.
