Fresh leaks surrounding Honor’s next flagship suggest the company is preparing a serious step up from the Magic8 Pro. If the latest chatter is accurate, the upcoming model is shaping up to be a major redesign with meaningful upgrades to display tech, camera hardware, biometric security, and battery life—exactly the kind of improvements buyers look for in a true “Pro” Android flagship.
A well-known China-based leaker has shared new details about what’s widely expected to launch as the Honor Magic9 Pro. The phone is said to arrive first in China around October 2026, with a wider release in Europe tipped for early 2027. While the device is still in the testing phase, the early picture looks ambitious.
One of the headline upgrades is performance. The Magic9 Pro is rumored to run on a 2 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6-class chipset, which should bring gains in efficiency and sustained speed—especially important for gaming, multitasking, and AI-heavy camera features.
On the front, Honor may be moving to a larger flat 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution. That would be an increase over the Magic8 Pro’s 6.71-inch panel, and the combination of LTPO tech and a flat screen design could appeal to users who want smooth adaptive refresh rates without the accidental touches and reflections some curved displays can introduce.
Security and unlocking could be another big talking point. The leak points to 3D facial recognition similar in concept to Apple’s Face ID, potentially using Metalenz Polar ID technology that’s said to be close to commercial readiness. If implemented well, this could deliver faster and more secure face unlock than typical 2D camera-based solutions. Alongside that, Honor is also rumored to include an in-display 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which generally performs better than optical scanners—especially with damp fingers and in challenging lighting.
Camera upgrades may be just as dramatic. The Magic9 Pro is rumored to adopt a dual 200 MP approach, featuring two high-resolution sensors. The main camera is said to use a 1/1.28-inch sensor, while the periscope telephoto camera could use a large 1/1.3- to 1/1.4-inch sensor. If these sensor sizes and resolutions hold true, it could translate into sharper detail, stronger low-light performance, and more flexibility for zoom and cropping—areas where premium phones increasingly compete. Earlier leaks also hinted at improved video capabilities developed in collaboration with Arri, suggesting Honor may be aiming to make video recording a standout strength this generation.
Battery life could see a major leap as well. The Magic9 Pro is rumored to jump from 7,100 mAh to at least 8,000 mAh, which would place it among the biggest batteries in the flagship space. Combined with a more efficient 2 nm chipset and LTPO display power savings, the real-world endurance could be a key selling point for heavy users.
It’s worth noting that these details reportedly come from early test units, so specifications may change before launch.
