Honor Magic9 debuts as a compact flagship with dual 200MP cameras, huge battery, and aggressive pricing
Honor has introduced the Magic9 in China, positioning it as a compact flagship built for users who want premium performance and serious camera hardware without moving to a giant-screen phone. The device arrives with a 6.37-inch display, dual 200MP rear cameras, a massive 8,000mAh battery, and a surprisingly competitive starting price.
The Honor Magic9 is being marketed as a small-screen imaging flagship, and the camera system is clearly the main attraction. Honor has partnered with ARRI for the phone’s imaging experience, bringing professional-style video tools and color profiles to a device that is still relatively compact by modern flagship standards.
At the front, the Magic9 features a 6.37-inch flat LTPS OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Honor has also equipped the panel with 3,840Hz PWM dimming, which should help reduce eye strain in low-light use. The bezels are extremely slim at just 0.95mm, giving the phone a premium all-screen look. Brightness is another major highlight, with Honor claiming up to 10,000 nits peak brightness and 2,000 nits in high-brightness mode.
Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. Honor has also added its C3 RF enhancement chip and E2 chip to improve connectivity and overall system efficiency. While many compact phones compromise on power or battery life, the Magic9 appears designed to deliver flagship-grade speed alongside long-lasting endurance.
One of the most impressive specifications is the 8,000mAh typical battery. That is unusually large for a phone with a 6.37-inch screen, especially one that measures 8.49mm thick and weighs 209g. Charging is also competitive, with support for 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The rear camera setup is where the Honor Magic9 stands out most. The phone features a 200MP main camera with a large 1/1.4-inch sensor and optical image stabilization. It is joined by a second 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, 3.5x optical zoom, an 85mm equivalent focal length, and up to 120x digital zoom. Both the main and telephoto cameras carry a CIPA 7.5 stabilization rating, which should help with sharper stills and steadier zoom shots.
A 50MP ultrawide camera completes the rear camera system, while the front includes a 55MP square-format selfie camera. Honor’s H1 imaging chip handles image processing, while the ARRI collaboration adds LogC3 video support and official ARRI Look profiles for users who want more cinematic control over their footage. Honor is also offering an optional 2.35x G200 teleconverter accessory for users who want to push the phone’s photography capabilities even further.
Beyond cameras and performance, the Magic9 is packed with flagship extras. It comes with IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, dedicated AI and camera buttons, an IR blaster, dual speakers, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and NFC. The phone runs MagicOS 11 out of the box.
Honor is offering the Magic9 in four colors: Popcorn Yellow, Olive Green, Morning White, and Curtain Black. The color options give the device a broader appeal, ranging from bright and playful to more classic and understated.
Pricing in China starts at 4,999 yuan, which is approximately $745, for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The 12GB + 512GB version is priced at 5,499 yuan, or about $820. The 16GB + 512GB model costs 5,999 yuan, around $895, while the top 16GB + 1TB version is priced at 6,999 yuan, roughly $1,040.
That starting price makes the Honor Magic9 especially interesting in the premium smartphone market. It undercuts several rival flagship models while offering a powerful Snapdragon chipset, an advanced dual 200MP camera setup, a compact display, and one of the largest batteries in its class.
For now, the Honor Magic9 is available in China through Honor’s official store, major online retailers, experience stores, and retail partners. Honor has not yet confirmed whether the Magic9 will launch globally, but given its hardware package and competitive pricing, it could attract strong attention if released in more markets.
