Honor Magic 8 Pro Air Debuts: Ultra-Slim 6.1mm Flagship Packs a Massive 5,500mAh Battery

Honor has officially taken the wraps off the Magic 8 Pro Air in China after several days of teasing, and it’s clearly aimed at people who want a true flagship phone without the bulk. With an ultra-slim body and high-end hardware, the Magic 8 Pro Air steps into the growing “thin flagship” category and positions itself as a serious alternative to other lightweight premium phones.

The biggest attention-grabber is the design. Honor says the Magic 8 Pro Air is just 6.1mm thin and weighs only 155g, making it one of the slimmest modern flagships you can buy. Honor hasn’t clarified whether that measurement includes the camera bump, but even so, the overall focus is obvious: deliver a premium, powerful phone that feels exceptionally light in the hand.

Slim phones often make compromises on performance, but that’s not the case here. The Magic 8 Pro Air is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, a current-generation flagship chipset. Buyers can configure it with up to 16GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of storage, which puts it firmly in top-tier territory for multitasking, gaming, and long-term use.

On the front, Honor is leaning hard into display quality. The Magic 8 Pro Air features a flagship-grade screen with ultra-narrow bezels, reportedly measuring just 1.08mm. Peak brightness is claimed to reach an eye-catching 6,000 nits, which should help with outdoor visibility and HDR content. The phone also includes a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and multiple screen protection features, reinforcing its premium positioning.

Cameras are another strong selling point. The rear camera system includes three lenses: a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor size and an f/1.6 aperture, a 64MP telephoto camera offering 3.2x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide. Selfie fans also get a high-resolution 50MP front camera, which suggests Honor is targeting both everyday shooters and content creators.

Despite its thin-and-light design, the Magic 8 Pro Air still packs a sizable battery. Honor lists a rated capacity of 5,500mAh, which stands out in a segment where slimmer phones often use much smaller cells. Charging also looks competitive, with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging support, giving it a nice balance of convenience and speed.

Rounding out the spec sheet are features many buyers now expect from a true flagship phone: IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance, a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and gaming, and 4320Hz PWM dimming aimed at improving comfort during low-brightness use.

Pricing in China starts at CNY 4,499 (around $645) for the base model, while the highest configuration reaches CNY 5,499 (about $789). Honor hasn’t yet confirmed global availability or an international launch date, but the Magic 8 Pro Air’s mix of ultra-slim design, flagship chipset, and large battery makes it a phone worth watching closely.
