HMD XploraOne Neo Leak Reveals Bigger Display, Larger Battery, and Kid-Friendly Features
A new leak has revealed early details about the HMD XploraOne Neo, an upcoming phone designed specifically for children. The device is expected to arrive as the successor to the XploraOne, bringing a slightly larger screen, a modest battery upgrade, and a set of features aimed at keeping kids connected while giving parents more control.
According to the latest leaked information, the XploraOne Neo will feature a 3.5-inch LCD display. That makes it larger than the 3.2-inch screen found on the original XploraOne, which should make basic navigation, calls, maps, and app interactions a little easier for younger users.
The phone is also said to include a 2MP rear camera, 64MB of RAM, and 128MB of internal storage. While those numbers are very basic compared to modern smartphones, they fit the purpose of the device. This is not meant to be a full-featured smartphone for gaming, streaming, or heavy app use. Instead, it appears to be built as a simple, controlled mobile device for children.
Storage can reportedly be expanded by up to 32GB using a microSD card, giving families a bit more room for essential files or supported content.
One of the key upgrades appears to be the battery. The XploraOne Neo is expected to pack a 2,000mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 1,950mAh battery in the previous model. The increase is small, but it may help balance the added power demand from the larger display.
The processor has not yet been revealed. The original XploraOne used a basic single-core Unisoc chip, so the Neo may follow a similar low-power approach. The device is also expected to run RTOS Touch, a custom operating system designed for simple operation rather than a traditional smartphone experience.
Connectivity looks to be one of the stronger areas of the XploraOne Neo. The leaked specs mention LTE, eSIM support, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality. The inclusion of LTE and eSIM could make setup easier for parents and allow kids to stay reachable without relying only on Wi-Fi.
The phone is also expected to support maps, video calling, and cloud-based apps. These features could make it useful for families who want their children to have basic communication tools without giving them access to a full smartphone ecosystem.
Parental control will likely remain a major selling point. Like the original XploraOne, the XploraOne Neo is expected to work with the Xplora Guardian app. Through this app, parents should be able to monitor usage, manage settings, and keep track of how the child is using the phone.
Design-wise, the XploraOne Neo is said to launch in a single black color. However, leaked images suggest that colorful and stylish protective cases will be available, giving kids a way to personalize the device. This could make the phone more appealing to younger users while still keeping the main hardware simple.
The device is also expected to come with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance. That means it should offer some protection against dust and light splashes, which is useful for a phone intended for children.
There is currently no confirmed release date or pricing for the HMD XploraOne Neo. It is also not yet clear which regions will receive the device first. However, based on the previous model, the phone may be sold through Xplora and selected retail partners rather than directly through HMD.
If the leaked details are accurate, the XploraOne Neo could be a practical option for parents looking for a first phone for their child. With a compact display, basic camera, LTE connectivity, GPS, parental controls, and a durable kid-focused design, it appears to be built around safety and communication rather than distraction.
