Halo is breaking new ground. On the Community Stage at the Halo World Championship 2025, Halo Studios unveiled Halo: Campaign Evolved and confirmed a day-one launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026. Community director Brian Jarrard punctuated the moment by wearing a PlayStation t-shirt on stage, symbolizing the franchise’s leap into a multiplatform future.
“It’s a huge deal. It’s a long time coming,” Jarrard said. “We’re just super excited to be able to welcome even more players now into the franchise we love, to fall in love with Halo the same way we all did 24 years ago.” He added that this is “really a new era,” noting that Halo is coming to PlayStation starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a full remake of the 2001 classic Halo: Combat Evolved built in Unreal Engine 5. The update brings modern visuals, smoother controls, refined movement with sprinting, and overhauled sound design. It also supports 4-player cross-platform co-op so players on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation can experience the campaign together.
Executive Producer Damon Conn called the PS5 debut an “incredible” opportunity. “What we want is for as many fans and players to be able to play the game as possible. To be on the Xbox Series X and S, PC, Steam, and PlayStation all at one time is a heck of a way to kick off the 25th anniversary.”
This announcement caps years of shifting strategy. Back in early 2024, Microsoft began opening parts of its first-party catalog to other platforms with titles like Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Grounded. By 2025, that approach had advanced significantly, with more former exclusives appearing on rival hardware and additional releases slated through the year.
For longtime fans, Halo: Campaign Evolved looks to balance nostalgia with modern performance and polish, while for newcomers on PS5 it’s a chance to start with the game that defined a generation—now rebuilt for today’s consoles and PCs. With cross-platform co-op and a simultaneous launch across systems, Halo’s 25th anniversary is set to unite more players than ever when it lands in 2026.
