GTA 6’s Vice City Scope and Story Length Reportedly Uncovered

GTA 6 Vice City Map Size and Story Length Reportedly Revealed

GTA 6 is shaping up to be Rockstar’s most ambitious open-world game yet, and new details suggest players should prepare for a massive return to Vice City. Following the latest extended look at the game, captured on a base PlayStation 5, excitement around Grand Theft Auto 6 has climbed even higher. The footage highlighted impressive visuals, dense city environments, and more realistic gameplay systems, even if the game is expected to target 30 frames per second on console.

One of the biggest talking points is the size of GTA 6’s map. According to Rockstar’s Rob Nelson, Vice City in GTA 6 is said to be twice as large as Los Santos from GTA 5. Even more impressive, the built-up urban area and overall density are reportedly far beyond what players experienced in GTA 5, with the city described as being around 11 times larger in terms of developed space and detail.

That means GTA 6 may not just offer a larger map, but a much more packed and lively one. Instead of wide empty spaces, players can expect a world filled with neighborhoods, streets, interiors, traffic, pedestrians, activities, and opportunities for exploration. If the estimate holds true, GTA 6’s map could be around 160 square kilometers, compared to GTA 5’s roughly 80 square kilometers. For comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2’s world has often been estimated at around 75 square kilometers, though these numbers can vary depending on how water, inaccessible areas, and boundaries are counted.

Another major detail is how soon players will be able to explore the world. Nelson reportedly stated that shortly after the game’s introduction, the full Vice City map will open up. That would be a big deal for fans who love the freedom of Grand Theft Auto, allowing players to dive into the city, discover side content, and create their own chaos without waiting too long for the campaign to unlock new regions.

The main story length also sounds substantial. GTA 6’s campaign is said to be comparable to Red Dead Redemption 2, which suggests that a standard playthrough could take around 50 to 60 hours. However, that number could rise significantly for players who spend time exploring, completing side missions, chasing optional objectives, and soaking in the world.

Nelson also mentioned that one playthrough earlier in development took around 80 hours, though that included optional content. This suggests GTA 6 will have plenty to offer beyond the main storyline, likely making it one of Rockstar’s longest and most content-rich releases.

With a reportedly massive Vice City map, denser urban environments, a lengthy campaign, and a world designed for exploration, GTA 6 appears set to deliver the kind of open-world experience fans have been waiting years to see. Rockstar and Take-Two have repeatedly emphasized value, and with the base version expected to cost $80, the scale and depth of the game will likely be a major part of that pitch.

If these details are accurate, Grand Theft Auto 6 will not simply be bigger than GTA 5. It could be far more detailed, more alive, and more rewarding to explore, giving players dozens of hours of story content and potentially countless more in side activities across Vice City.
