GTA 6 for Switch 2? Red Dead Redemption Port Studio Teases Major New Project

GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2? New Double Eleven job listings fuel port speculation

Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated game releases in years, and while PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players are expected to get first access, Nintendo fans are now wondering whether GTA 6 could eventually arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2.

There is still no official confirmation from Rockstar Games or Nintendo, and no release window has been announced for a Switch 2 version. However, fresh hiring activity from Double Eleven has sparked new discussion around the possibility of major Rockstar titles being prepared for Nintendo’s next-generation handheld console.

Double Eleven is already known for working on Rockstar-related ports, including bringing Red Dead Redemption to Nintendo hardware. Now, the studio appears to be recruiting for two major roles: Lead Programmer and Principal Low-Level Graphics Programmer.

The Lead Programmer listing refers to work on a “high profile project” described as a “full art remaster of a much-loved title.” That wording alone has caught the attention of players, but the more interesting clue comes from the graphics-focused role. The listing mentions work on a “next-generation custom graphics engine” and asks for experience with modern consoles, with extra value placed on knowledge of Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 development.

That detail has led some fans to speculate that Double Eleven could be involved in preparing a technically demanding Rockstar project for Nintendo Switch 2. Naturally, GTA 6 is the name that immediately comes to mind, especially given the huge interest surrounding the game and the expected power upgrade of Nintendo’s new console.

Still, it is important to keep expectations realistic. These job listings do not directly mention GTA 6, Rockstar, or any specific upcoming release. They could point to a completely different project, and there is also a strong chance they relate to the rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 port for Nintendo Switch 2.

The idea of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch 2 currently seems more believable. Reports and industry chatter have suggested for some time that Rockstar’s open-world western could be headed to Nintendo’s next console. Since Double Eleven has experience with Rockstar’s catalog, the studio would be a logical candidate to help with such a port.

Even so, GTA 6 on Switch 2 is not impossible. Nintendo’s next system is expected to be significantly more capable than the original Switch, and major third-party publishers may be more willing to support it with ambitious releases. If the hardware can handle a carefully optimized version of GTA 6, a Switch 2 port could open the game to a massive audience of handheld and hybrid console players.

There have already been hints that a Nintendo version might at least be under consideration. A retailer listing previously appeared to reference a Switch 2 version of GTA 6 before being noticed by fans. While retailer listings can be mistakes or placeholders, they often add fuel to speculation when combined with other industry signs.

On the other side of the debate, some developers and analysts have questioned whether GTA 6 would be a good fit for Switch 2. Rockstar is known for pushing technical boundaries, and GTA 6 is expected to be one of the most visually advanced open-world games on the market. A former Rockstar developer previously suggested that bringing the game to Nintendo’s hardware could result in a compromised experience if the console cannot match the performance needed for the game’s scale, density, and visual quality.

For now, the safest conclusion is that GTA 6 for Nintendo Switch 2 remains a possibility, not a certainty. The Double Eleven job listings are interesting, especially because of the references to modern console platforms, Switch 2 experience, and next-generation graphics work. However, they stop short of confirming anything specific.

Nintendo fans hoping to play Grand Theft Auto 6 on Switch 2 will need to wait for an official announcement. Until then, the more likely near-term Rockstar project for the platform appears to be Red Dead Redemption 2. But with Switch 2 expected to attract stronger third-party support, the dream of playing GTA 6 on a Nintendo handheld may not be as far-fetched as it once seemed.
