Recent testing has revealed that Google’s latest Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphones exhibit excellent temperature control during intensive battery drain tests, although their overall battery life does not top the charts. This finding adds to the existing narrative around smartphone performances, suggesting a focus on optimizing device runtimes for future models.

In comparative evaluations alongside competitors like the OnePlus 12, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, what catches attention is the Pixel models’ ability to maintain cooler operating temperatures. The Pixel 9 series, which includes a 4,700mAh battery on the base model and a 5,060mAh unit on the Pro XL version, did not lead the pack in battery lifespan. Nevertheless, a significant improvement was noted in comparison to their predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro, indicating a better optimization of battery resources. Both the Pixel 9 and its Pro XL variant lasted approximately 10 hours and 25 minutes in the drain tests, falling short of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which achieved an 11-hour-and-44-minute runtime.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s sophisticated cooling technology was also put to the test, reaching a higher temperature of 50.4 degrees Celsius but still delivering a respectable performance in terms of battery life. The iPhone 15 Pro Max managed to combine a longer battery life with moderate thermal readings, keeping ahead of its competitors.

Interestingly, this excellent thermal management was previously noted in a gaming performance test for the Pixel 9 Pro XL, where the smartphone’s temperatures remained below 37 degrees Celsius. Despite the advanced cooling capabilities, Google’s Tensor G4 chipset fell short in performance against the older Tensor G2, especially in resource-intensive applications like Genshin Impact. This detail underscores the balancing act between hardware performance and thermal efficiency.
