Google’s November Pixel Drop is here, bringing a fresh wave of AI-powered upgrades and quality-of-life improvements to compatible Pixel phones. This quarterly update focuses on smarter notifications, longer battery life while navigating, more powerful editing tools in Photos and Messages, and wider availability for on-device scam protection.
Here’s what’s new and where it’s available:
Smarter notifications and summaries
– Pixel 9 and later get notification summaries for long chats and conversations, helping you catch up faster without scrolling.
– Starting in December, a new option will automatically silence low-priority alerts, keeping your attention on what matters most. For context, rival platforms have leaned into highlighting priority notifications; this addition brings Pixel closer to that experience while keeping it distinctly Google.
Maps low-power mode for longer trips
– A new low-power mode for Google Maps limits visuals to essentials like your route and the next turn, dimming the screen to preserve energy.
– Available on the Pixel 10 series, Google says this can stretch battery life by up to four hours on long drives.
Expanded on-device scam protection
– Call scam detection powered by Gemini Nano and on-device speech processing, previously available in the U.S. on Pixel 9 and newer, is expanding to the U.K., Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada.
– Message security gets a boost, too. A new “Likely a scam” button appears in notifications when Google detects suspicious content, making it easier to avoid risky interactions.
Creative photo Remix in Messages
– Using Google’s Nano Banana image model and Gemini, the new Remix feature in Messages lets you reimagine a photo with a simple prompt. Think playful, stylized edits you can generate on the fly.
– Rolling out in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, and New Zealand to users with RCS enabled and English language support.
Pixel VIPs get true priority
– The Pixel VIPs shortcut, which lets you mark up to eight important contacts for a home screen widget, now prioritizes their notifications so you don’t miss updates from the people who matter most.
– If a crisis such as a flood affects the area where a VIP lives, a crisis badge will appear in their widget tile to alert you.
“Help me edit” comes to Google Photos
– A new AI-powered editing flow in Google Photos lets you ask for multi-step changes in plain language, such as removing sunglasses, opening eyes, or adding a smile for specific people in the shot.
– The feature uses face groups in Photos to identify who’s who and apply targeted edits, streamlining complex touch-ups into a single request.
Call Notes expands to more regions
– The call transcription feature known as Call Notes is now available in Australia, Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Japan, making it easier to capture important details from your conversations.
Fresh personalization with a Wicked theme pack
– Pixel 6 and later can dress up the interface with the new “Wicked: For Good” theme pack, featuring custom wallpapers, icons, system sounds, and GIFs inspired by the movie.
Availability and device support vary by feature, region, and language, and some capabilities require Pixel 9 or Pixel 10 devices. To try them as they arrive, make sure your Pixel and Google apps are updated, RCS is enabled in Messages where required, and keep an eye on system settings as rollouts continue through November and into December.
