Google Introduces ‘Ask for Me’: Your Personal Business Inquiry Assistant

Google is introducing an innovative feature called “Ask for Me” that leverages AI to streamline the process of contacting local businesses for information on availability and pricing. This new tool aims to save users the hassle of making phone calls by handling the task of gathering information about local services such as nail salons and auto shops.

For those participating in Google’s Search Labs experiments, “Ask for Me” is accessible on both desktop and mobile devices. To use the feature, participants can search for services like “oil change” or “nail salons nearby,” and they will be presented with an “Ask for Me” option along with a “Get started” button. This interactive process allows users to specify service details—ranging from “tire replacement” to “french manicure”—and timeframe preferences. Once the details are entered, Google’s AI takes over, reaching out to local businesses and subsequently providing a concise summary of pricing and availability.

This development is part of Google’s broader strategy to incorporate AI into everyday tasks, thereby enhancing user convenience. A similar feature, “Talk to a Live Rep,” was launched by Google last year. It automates the process of contacting businesses by connecting users to live representatives without subjecting them to lengthy hold times and repetitive customer service music.

Additionally, Google has also introduced “Daily Listen,” another inventive feature within Search Labs. This service offers a personalized, AI-powered audio experience designed to keep users informed with a tailored news feed.

As Google continues to innovate with AI-driven solutions, these features exemplify the potential of artificial intelligence to simplify and improve user interactions with service providers, ensuring a seamless blend of technology and daily life.
