Google Chat is introducing an exciting new feature that enables users to effortlessly transition to a voice or video call directly from their chat conversations. Mirroring the popular “Huddles” functionality found in Slack, this new capability lets users maintain seamless communication without leaving the chat environment. Surprisingly, even though it shares a name with Slack’s Huddles, Google is keeping things simple by adopting the same moniker for this feature.
Starting a huddle in Google Chat is straightforward. Simply click on the drop-down menu next to the call icon and select “Start the huddle.” This action will initiate a voice call by default, but with the flexibility to switch to video or enable screen sharing, thanks to integration with Google Meet.
Originally announced last year as part of Google’s initiative to refresh its Chat platform, this feature begins its rollout today. All Google Workspace users can expect to access this convenient tool in the coming weeks, enhancing their collaboration and communication experiences significantly.
