Genshin Impact 7.0 Opens the Gates to Snezhnaya on August 12

Genshin Impact Version 7.0 launches August 12, bringing Travelers to Snezhnaya

HoYoverse is preparing one of the biggest updates in Genshin Impact history. Version 7.0 is set to launch globally on August 12, 2026, and it will finally open the gates to Snezhnaya, the long-teased frozen nation tied to the Tsaritsa, the Fatui, and the future of Teyvat’s main story.

The release date was hinted at through the redemption code “Snezhnaya20260812,” which appeared during the April Special Program. Instead of moving through Version 6.8, Genshin Impact will jump directly from Version 6.7 to Version 7.0, making the arrival of Snezhnaya feel like a true turning point for the game.

For years, Snezhnaya has been one of the most mysterious regions in Genshin Impact. It has been referenced since the earliest Archon Quests, with the Fatui playing a major role across nearly every nation. Now, with six Gnoses already collected and the Tsaritsa’s ambitions moving closer to the spotlight, Version 7.0 is expected to push the central storyline into its most dramatic chapter yet.

Snezhnaya introduces a colder, harsher side of Teyvat

Unlike the bright forests of Sumeru, the dramatic islands of Inazuma, or the elegant waters of Fontaine, Snezhnaya is built around ice, industry, and survival. The new region is described as a frozen land filled with snow-covered cities, tundra landscapes, and industrial zones that give it a very different identity from previous nations.

The region also appears to draw inspiration from Slavic naming and visual themes, reflected in characters such as Odette, Alyosha, and Tugarin. This gives Snezhnaya a distinct cultural flavor while helping it stand apart from every other area currently available in Genshin Impact.

One of the most interesting additions is a train network that runs across the region. HoYoverse has confirmed that trains will play a role in exploring Snezhnaya, although the exact level of player control has not yet been fully explained. Whether the system is used mainly for fast travel, story moments, or deeper exploration mechanics remains to be seen.

New Stellar Reactions expand combat in Version 7.0

Genshin Impact Version 7.0 will also continue expanding the Stellar Reaction system, which first began appearing quietly during the Version 6.6 and Version 6.7 updates through Sandrone-related content.

Two new reaction types are being introduced in Snezhnaya: Stellar-Conduct and Stellar-Swirl.

Stellar-Conduct combines Cryo and Electro, while Stellar-Swirl combines Cryo and Anemo. Unlike many traditional elemental reactions that mainly reward the triggering character, these new interactions create fields that increase elemental damage for the entire party.

This could make team-building more flexible in Version 7.0, especially for players who enjoy reaction-heavy compositions. With Cryo taking center stage in Snezhnaya, the new Stellar mechanics may become a major part of the region’s combat identity.

Odette joins as a new 5-star Cryo character

The first confirmed new character for Genshin Impact Version 7.0 is Odette, a 5-star Cryo Sword user. Her official title is Prima Ballerina of the Korolevskiy Troupe, and her character concept blends elegance with danger.

By day, Odette is one of Snezhnaya’s most sought-after dancers. By night, she is connected to the Fatui, giving her a dual identity that fits perfectly with the secrecy and political tension surrounding the region.

In combat, Odette is designed around enabling Stellar reactions. Her kit includes a dance-double summon that can apply Cryo while she is off the field, making her potentially valuable for teams built around Cryo-based elemental setups. If her final kit stays close to the early reveal, she could become a strong support or sub-DPS option for players looking to take advantage of Version 7.0’s new reaction system.

Alyosha and Tugarin bring a new Electro playstyle

Alyosha is another new character expected to appear in the Snezhnaya update. He is described as a 4-star Electro polearm user who fights alongside his hunting hound, Tugarin.

His playstyle revolves around Hunting Marks. When Alyosha applies a mark to an enemy that is already marked, it can trigger a party-wide attack buff. Tugarin also contributes through bite attacks that provide off-field damage and healing, giving Alyosha a supportive role with added utility.

While HoYoverse has not officially confirmed every detail of Alyosha’s availability, past Genshin Impact patterns suggest he may become obtainable during the opening Archon Quest chapter. Every debut 4-star character in previous major regional releases has followed a similar route, though players should wait for official confirmation before making plans.

The Traveler finally receives the Cryo element

Version 7.0 will also give the Traveler access to their seventh element: Cryo. This is a major milestone for long-time players, as it brings the Traveler one step closer to completing their elemental journey across Teyvat.

The Cryo Traveler is expected to focus on field control and reaction scaling, which should pair naturally with the new Stellar Reaction system. Since Snezhnaya is the Cryo nation, this element may also play an important role in exploration, puzzles, and story progression throughout the region.

Version 7.0 Special Program expected before launch

The current Version 6.7 banner cycle is scheduled to run until August 11, just before the launch of Version 7.0. HoYoverse is expected to host the Genshin Impact Version 7.0 Special Program on July 31, where players should learn more about the banner schedule, character kits, events, story content, and gameplay systems coming with Snezhnaya.

Until then, some details should be treated as subject to change, especially Alyosha’s complete moveset and the finer mechanics behind Stellar-Swirl. However, the August 12 release date, the arrival of Snezhnaya, and Odette’s Cryo identity have already made Version 7.0 one of the most anticipated updates in Genshin Impact.

With a new nation, new characters, a fresh combat system, the Cryo Traveler, and major story developments involving the Tsaritsa and the Fatui, Genshin Impact Version 7.0 looks set to be a defining moment for the game’s future.
