Genesis GV90 Reinvents the Family SUV With Roof Airbags and Futuristic Coach Doors

Genesis GV90 Electric SUV Debuts With Coach Doors, Roof Airbag, and Luxury-Focused Cabin

Genesis has introduced the GV90, its first three-row electric family SUV, and it looks ready to challenge the idea that premium EVs need to be stripped down and minimalist. Instead of focusing only on clean screens and software, the GV90 puts comfort, craftsmanship, safety, and futuristic design at the center of the experience.

One of the biggest talking points is the GV90’s dramatic door system. Genesis calls it the Arch Gate, a hidden B-pillar design that allows the front and rear coach doors to open independently or together. When both doors swing open, the cabin creates a wide, limousine-like entry space, making it easier for families, passengers, and rear-seat occupants to get in and out.

It is a bold approach that gives the GV90 a true show-car feel. While Tesla’s Model X falcon-wing doors once defined futuristic SUV design, Genesis is aiming for something more practical and elegant for daily family use.

The GV90 is powered by a 123.5 kWh battery and delivers up to 657 horsepower with 590 lb-ft of torque. Genesis estimates around 310 miles of driving range, while fast charging from 10% to 80% is expected to take about 22 minutes under ideal conditions.

Performance is strong, but Genesis appears to be placing just as much emphasis on ride comfort. The GV90 features a multi-chamber air suspension system designed to smooth out rough roads and create a more refined driving experience. Active rear-wheel steering with up to five degrees of movement should also help this large three-row SUV feel more manageable in tight spaces, parking lots, and city streets.

Inside, the Genesis GV90 takes a very different approach from the ultra-minimal EV interiors many buyers have become used to. The cabin is packed with high-end technology, including a massive 25-inch head-up display and a pop-up 23.6-inch OLED Cinematic Display. These screens are designed to give the GV90 a more immersive and premium feel, especially for passengers who want entertainment and comfort on longer trips.

Audio is another major highlight. Genesis has equipped the SUV with a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with Dolby Atmos support, giving the GV90 one of the most advanced sound setups in its class. Combined with premium materials such as cashmere trim and motorized swiveling seats, the interior is clearly aimed at buyers who want more than just efficiency and acceleration from an electric SUV.

Safety is also a major focus. The GV90 introduces what Genesis describes as the world’s first roof airbag for a panoramic glass roof. This system is part of a 12-airbag setup and is designed to improve rollover protection, especially in vehicles with large glass roof panels. It is a feature not commonly found in electric SUVs today and could help set a new benchmark for luxury EV safety.

Genesis is not positioning the GV90 as a direct rival to Tesla in self-driving software. Instead, the brand is betting on luxury, comfort, thoughtful engineering, and a feature-rich cabin to attract buyers who may find minimalist EV interiors too plain or clinical.

Another important advantage is charging convenience. The GV90 is expected to support direct access to the Tesla Supercharger network, giving owners more flexibility on road trips and daily charging routes.

The biggest unanswered questions remain pricing and launch timing. Genesis has not yet confirmed when the GV90 will arrive in showrooms or how much it will cost. If the brand can price it competitively, the GV90 could become one of the most appealing luxury three-row electric SUVs for families who want advanced technology, premium comfort, strong performance, and standout design in one package.
