Google’s conversational AI chatbot, Gemini, is expanding its reach with Gemini Live, bringing a more natural and quicker interaction to users through voice commands. Currently available exclusively to Gemini Advance subscribers, this feature allows early access to a more streamlined and intuitive experience.
Unlike its predecessors, Gemini Live cannot yet be accessed via the Gemini web app, Google Messages, or on the iPhone Google app. Presently, it’s limited to personal Google accounts, meaning those using work or school profiles will not have access. At the moment, it’s also restricted to the English language, but Google has promised support for more languages in the near future. Additionally, the newly introduced Gems don’t work with this version of Gemini Live.
Users can easily get started with Gemini Live by using the Gemini mobile app or utilizing it as their mobile assistant on compatible Android phones and tablets. This feature lets users engage in conversations with the AI assistant entirely through voice commands. The assistant adapts to the user’s conversational style, providing relevant information based on known preferences. Furthermore, Gemini Live can operate in the background or directly from the lock screen.
A significant addition to this update is the introduction of ten new voice options for the AI assistant, addressing a common user complaint about the previous Google Assistant’s limited voice choices. Users can now select from these voices, which will be used for audible responses and during active Gemini Live sessions.
While Gemini Live is a promising feature, it’s still early days. Google is continuously improving its functionality through new extensions. Notably, the integration of OpenStax provides educational resources, and upcoming enhancements are expected to include integration with Google Keep, Tasks, and Google Calendar.
Stay tuned for more updates on Gemini as Google continues to innovate and expand its capabilities.
