GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Boosted with SK Hynix GDDR7 Memory to 34 Gbps: Achieves 7% Performance Enhancement

A tech enthusiast has managed to boost the VRAM clock on an RTX 5070 Ti by an impressive 21%, using SK Hynix’s GDDR7 memory, demonstrating significant performance gains. This development highlights the potential of SK Hynix components, which appear to rival the traditionally used Samsung GDDR7 memory in NVIDIA’s latest GPUs.

NVIDIA has started incorporating GDDR7 memory modules from SK Hynix in its RTX 50 series Blackwell GPUs. While Samsung’s GDDR7 has been the go-to choice, SK Hynix is now stepping in to meet demand and improve availability. Initial expectations suggested the RTX 5070 would be the first to feature this new memory, but the RTX 5070 Ti has also swiftly adopted it.

A user named “michelelee” on the Chiphell forum tested the performance of their Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti Gaming OC with SK Hynix’s memory. By attempting to flash the BIOS from the AORUS Master RTX 5070 Ti, equipped with Samsung’s modules, they aimed to unlock a higher power limit. However, this resulted in a bricked card. Despite this setback, with the original BIOS, the SK Hynix-equipped RTX 5070 Ti ran at a 1750 MHz base clock (28 Gbps), matching the standard for RTX 50 series GPUs, except for the RTX 5080.

With overclocking, the memory clock reached an impressive 2125 MHz, or 34 Gbps, a 21% increase. In practical terms, this translated to enhanced performance, with Time Spy scores jumping from 28,46x to 30,426—a 7% improvement. This boost is expected to improve gaming experiences as well, showcasing the capability of SK Hynix GDDR7 memory to match its Samsung counterpart in performance and compatibility.

Currently, many RTX 50 series models still use Samsung’s GDDR7 modules, but more units with SK Hynix’s memory are anticipated in the coming weeks. As NVIDIA navigates memory supply challenges, diversifying its sources with SK Hynix is a strategic move to ensure steady availability.
